This strategic role, part of the India Site Leadership Team, involves partnering with business leaders across IT, Supply Chain, Finance, and Commercial to align HR strategies with business objectives, foster a high-performance culture, and ensure a seamless employee experience. The incumbent will collaborate with APAC and U.S. HR teams and will be based in Bengaluru, working a minimum of 3 days in the office.
Must have:

  • Partner with business leaders on organizational design, workforce planning, and talent strategies.
  • Drive leadership and employee development, succession planning, and career pathing.
  • Drive positive employee experience through engagement programs and feedback mechanisms.
  • Manage employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.
  • Lead change management initiatives and foster a culture of innovation and agility.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and compliant workplace.
  • Partner with Regional CoEs to oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, reward, and retention.
  • Ensure HR policies and practices comply with local labor laws and global standards.
  • Develop and monitor HR metrics, providing insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to country leadership and global HR teams.
  • Collaborate with external partners, legal advisors, and government bodies.
  • Represent the company in various forums to market a positive employee value proposition.

Position Summary:

Illumina is seeking a dynamic HR leader to oversee and scale the HR function for our Global Capability Center (GCC) and our Commercial site, located in Bengaluru, currently totaling over 300 employees and growing rapidly.

The Associate Director role is part of the India Site Leadership Team and is pivotal in supporting the continued growth of the Company’s operations in India. The Incumbent will serve as a strategic partner to business leaders in IT, Supply Chain, Finance and Commercial among other functions, ensuring HR strategies are aligned with business objectives while fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and innovative culture. The ideal candidate will collaborate extensively with HR colleagues across APAC and the U.S. to build scalable people practices to deliver a seamless and integrated employee experience. This role is based in Bengaluru with a requirement to work a minimum of 3 days in the office. The incumbent will have direct and dotted line reports and be the HR Functional lead in India.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute India-specific HR strategies aligned with global and regional HR priorities focused on the entire employee lifecycle.
  • Partner with business leaders to develop and implement organizational design, workforce planning and talent strategies.
  • Drive leadership and employee development, succession planning, and career pathing.
  • Drive a positive employee experience through engagement programs, feedback mechanisms and the creation and rollout of inclusion and belonging initiatives.
  • Manage employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions in line with local laws.
  • Lead change management initiatives and foster a culture of innovation and agility.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and compliant workplace.
  • Partner with Regional Centers of Excellence (CoEs) to oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, reward and retention strategies.
  • Ensure HR policies and practices comply with local labor laws and global standards.
  • Develop and monitor HR metrics and provide insights and recommendations to leadership for continuous improvement.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to country leadership and global HR teams.
  • Collaborate with external partners, legal advisors, and government bodies as needed.
  • Represent the company in various internal and external forums to lead and market a positive employee value proposition.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive HR experience with a minimum of 7 years of Management experience in India in supporting a Commercial function, a Shared Services organization and/ or Global Capability Center
  • Proven Success in scaling HR operations in a global or matrixed organization, ideally in biotech, life sciences, or tech.
  • A track record in developing and executing strategic plans and vision with tangible outcomes and business results
  • Proven superior oral and written communication and presentation skills with a demonstrated capacity to effectively communicate complex ideas and business concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage relationships and consult at managerial and executive levels
  • Prior experience overseeing, leading and developing other professionals and/ or managers
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills with strong influencing and negotiating abilities
  • Dedicated, fast worker who is able to withstand the high demands of a fast-paced environment
  • A team player, resourceful, with attention to details and able to multitask
  • Pleasant personality with great energy and initiative
  • Strong understanding of Indian and Karnataka labor law, HR compliance and employment practices
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
