Job Summary

This Associate role in Valuation Governance at BlackRock's Private Valuation Team supports the investment valuation function for private, illiquid investments. The team ensures data integrity for BlackRock and BRS clients on the Aladdin platform. Responsibilities include building and maintaining valuation models, collaborating with investment teams, driving process efficiencies, reviewing third-party valuations, and presenting findings to committees. Must Have

Building and maintaining valuation models for alternative investments.
Working with investment teams to incorporate relevant information into valuations.
Driving increased efficiency and control through continuous review of valuation processes.
Reviewing and tying out valuation opinions from third-party service providers and appraisers.
Reviewing legal documents to establish terms and conditions for new securities.
Preparing materials for and presenting findings to Valuation Committees.
Providing high quality client service externally and internally.
Initiating and driving platform and process innovations.
Liaising with independent auditors and providing support for valuations.
Performing a review of fair value reporting from underlying managers and sponsors.
Supporting internal and external partners’ ad-hoc requests.
Ability to manage projects and team members and meet deadlines.
Bachelor's degree.
2 to 5 years relevant experience.
Solid understanding of ASC 820 and IFRS 13.
Ability to work with and manage financial data and build summarized reports.
Experience building, testing and implementing valuation models.

Good to Have

Private investment valuation experience.
Familiarity with PWERM, OPM, and Current Value valuation techniques.
Working knowledge of Bloomberg, Reuters, Interactive Data, and MS Office Suite.
Working knowledge of SQL, Unix commands, PERL.

Team Overview

Data Services (BDS) is entrusted with maintaining all data integral to the investment decision process, for the Investment Manager and its Solutions (BRS) business, in our proprietary Aladdin® end-to-end investment platform. BDS closely partners with teams, such as Portfolio Management, Global Capital Markets, Relationship Management, Portfolio Compliance, Risk Analytics, Regulatory Reporting, and others, to ensure their business data needs are met accurately, timely, and efficiently.

The Private Valuation Team within BDS supports the investment valuation function for private, illiquid investments acting as the interface between the investment professionals, external valuation providers, accounting outsource providers, auditors, and Global Fund Services. The team focuses on adding value by providing valuation oversight and coordination of valuations and supporting documentation.

Role Responsibility

Building and maintaining valuation models for real estate, private equity, private credit and other alternative investments.
Working with investment teams to ensure all relevant information is incorporated into valuations.
Drive increased efficiency and control through continuous review of current valuation processes; evaluate and implement technology improvements in partnership with relevant stakeholders.
Review and tie out of valuation opinions received from third party service providers and real estate appraisers. Communicate any comments and coordinate sign off in coordination with Investment, Pricing and Fund Administration teams.
Review legal documents to establish terms and conditions associated with new securities purchased.
Prepare materials to be provided to the Valuation Committee and present findings to Pricing Committees and other management as necessary.
Provide high quality client service externally and internally. Address inquiries, perform controls, problem solve, and mitigate risks.
Initiate and help drive platform and process innovations to support fast-growing business needs, minimize risk, improve quality, and navigate the changing markets.
Liaison with independent auditors. Provide support for valuations and answer questions as necessary in a controlled and efficient manner.
Perform a review of fair value reporting provided by underlying managers and Co-Investment sponsors.
Support internal and external partners’ ad-hoc requests - provide status updates and appropriately manage expectations with senior leaders.
Ability to manage projects and team members and meet deadlines within a global team environment.

Experience

Bachelor's degree is required, with preference to Accounting or Finance.
2 to 5 years relevant experience, private investment valuation experience preferred.
Solid understanding of ASC 820 and IFRS 13, familiarity with PWERM, OPM, and Current Value valuation techniques preferred.
Ability to work with and manage financial data and build summarized reports
Experience building, testing and implementing valuation models.
