Job Description

The Automation Engineer will work as part of a project team or independently, providing technical support for facility operations and capital projects. Responsibilities include overseeing control systems projects, diagnosing technical issues, providing solutions, and serving as a system administrator. The role involves providing technical assistance, preparing project estimates, developing Standard Operating Procedures, and supporting the development of Preventive Maintenance Procedures for process control systems. The engineer will also be involved in site capital planning and continuous improvement of site processes and procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of automation and control systems, GMP, OSHA, FDA, and environmental regulations. The engineer will also be responsible for providing Key Performance Indicators from the assigned Site on a regular basis.
Must have:
  • B.S. in Engineering or Computer Science
  • 5+ years of experience in Automation Engineering
  • Knowledge of GMP, OSHA, FDA regulations
  • Experience in SQL Database Server
  • Hands-on experience with process control equipment
Good to have:
  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English and Spanish
  • Experience in VMware and/or Virtual Machines
  • Licensed CIAPR preferred

About the role

Work as part of a project team or independently. Perform function to provide controls/automation technical support for facility operations and execution of capital project from initial concept to final closeout to support the capital project program. Identify and assist Sr. Engineers in troubleshooting and problem solving in manufacturing operations control systems/automation/instrumentation issues

Role Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate small control systems projects/assignments in the support of site operations.
  • Diagnose technical issues and provide recommendations/solutions for corrective actions. Uses programming software to configure and/or make modifications to automated systems and process control systems, following established Quality control systems
  • Serve as system administrator for simple process control systems. Support the evaluation of process control changes to determine whether changes would qualify as capital projects or require software changes
  • Provide moderate to high level technical assistance to site operating groups through investigations, control system assessments, and design support. Proactively look for and recommend improvements in site processes and procedures. Provide Key Performance Indicators from the assigned Site on regular basis
  • Prepare small to medium scale project estimates for design, equipment, installation, labor, materials, and other related costs. Work with Purchasing to prepare bid packages for construction and facilities expansion. Participate in site capital planning process
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures for process control systems including fault tolerance, back-up custom software application, and required hardware needed for troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Support the development of Preventive Maintenance Procedures for process control systems including battery replacements, routine cleaning, and media storage purging. Maintain a library for vendor application software, back-up custom software application, and required hardware needed for troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Provide technical assistance to site operating groups through investigations, control system assessments, and design support.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Computer, Mechanical or Electrical)
  • B.S. in computer science or electronic
  • 5+ years of experience on Automation Engineering
  • Knowledge of GMP, OSHA, FDA, and environmental regulations applicable to the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in SQL Database Server
  • Hands on experience with process controls equipment including PLCs, DCSs, HMIs, SCADA systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English and Spanish
  • Experience in VMware and/or Virtual Machines
  • Licensed CIAPR preferred.
