A Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is responsible for transforming raw data into meaningful insights through the development and implementation of BI solutions. You will manage data integration, create, and maintain data warehouses, and design ETL processes to ensure accurate data movement. BI Developers will also create interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI, translating business requirements into technical specifications. You will work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs, provide training, and support, and ensure the BI systems are running efficiently and securely.
Key Accountabilities
Data Governance:
- Understanding of data policies, standards, and regulations.
Data Quality, Integration and Management:
- Data Collection: Gather data from various sources, including databases, APIs, and flat files.
- Data Cleaning: Ensure data quality by cleaning and preprocessing data to remove inconsistencies and errors.
- Data Warehousing: Design and maintain data warehouses to store and organise large volumes of data.
Data Architecture:
- Knowledge of data structures, databases, and storage solutions.
- BI Solutions: Develop and implement BI solutions, including dashboards, reports, and data visualisations.
- Technical Specifications: Translate business requirements into technical specifications and build BI solutions accordingly.
- ETL Processes: Design and manage ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure data is accurately and efficiently moved from source systems to data warehouses.
Reporting and Visualisation:
- Dashboard Creation: Create interactive and user-friendly dashboards using tools like Power BI and/or Tableau.
- Report Generation: Develop reports that provide actionable insights to stakeholders, helping them make informed decisions.
- Data Visualisation: Use data visualisation techniques to present complex data in an easily understandable format.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Stakeholder Interaction: Work closely with Reporting and Data Analysts, and other key stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver appropriate BI solutions.
- Training and Support: Provide training and support to end-users to help them effectively use BI tools and understand the insights generated.
Drives Results:
- Organises workload and priorities to adhere to agreed timeframes and service standards.
- Explores alternative solutions to improve effectiveness and productivity within the team.
- Makes informed and timely decisions when appropriate, weighing up risks and outcomes using sound risk awareness and management practices.
Qualifications
- Over 5 years of BI Developer experience working in the same or similar role in a Financial Services and/or Life Insurance company desirable.
- A Bachelor’s degree Tertiary qualification in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, Economics, or related discipline or equivalent.
- Data Analytical skills within a large data driven organisation, including data concepts, such as Data Governance, Data Quality and Data Architecture
