Job Description

This role is for a CH147F Aircrew Training Specialist at CAE's Training Centre Operations in Petawawa, Ontario. The specialist will provide technical, flight, or operational expertise, guidance, and oversight for Verification and Validation support or as a Subject Matter Expert on a Training Solutions team. Responsibilities include developing training solutions, courseware content, performance checks, and supporting system testing for CH147F Chinook Aircrew training, ensuring program quality and operational excellence.
Must have:
  • Develop the training solution for the Training Systems program
  • Develop standardized exemplars for storyboards and lessons
  • Support courseware development, ensuring content accuracy
  • Support development of performance checks or tests
  • Provide first level quality assurance on courseware output
  • Create and maintain verification and validation work and test plans
  • Review system test plans and create training and mission scenario test plans
  • Use aircraft documentation to provide engineering support to software developers
  • Test synthetic training devices to ensure design and regulatory requirements are met
  • Support the customer during on site acceptance testing activities
  • Maintain military and aviation publications
  • Resolve technical issues in collaboration with CFO Technical Services staff
  • Graduate of Royal Canadian Air Force aircrew course (wings qualified)
  • Strong computer aptitude and willingness to learn new programs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
  • Capable of obtaining and maintaining both Controlled Goods Clearance and a Level II NATO Secret security clearance
  • Excellent working knowledge of English (written and spoken)
  • Permitted to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen, a Permanent Resident or with a valid Work Permit
  • Willing to relocate to the area of Petawawa, ON, Canada
Good to have:
  • Aircrew instructor (course code AIMB) is an asset
  • Tactical Aviation experience is an asset
  • Functional ability in French is an asset
  • Experience as a Standard Unit or Central Flying School member
  • Qualified Tactics or Weapons Instructor
  • Flight or mission simulator experience

Position overview

In this role, the CH147F Aircrew Training Specialist will be responsible for providing technical, flight or operational expertise, guidance and oversight as part of Verification and Validation support or as SME (Subject Matter Experts) on a Training Solutions team supporting the Courseware production of a Training Systems program. The successful candidate will join the Training Services team who provide training-focused services to (and located within) 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron (THS) in Petawawa, Ontario.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop the training solution for the Training Systems program
  • In conjunction with the Instructional System Designer, develop the standardized exemplars for the storyboards and lessons for the programs
  • Support the courseware development process by ensuring that the content of the courseware is correct in accordance with the training plan, the technical specifications of the training platform (aircraft or maintenance system) and the procedures and checklist
  • Support the development of performance checks or tests to ensure the content of the questions or activities that must be performed provide a valid means of measuring whether students have acquired the knowledge needed to proceed to the next level or to graduate
  • Provide first level quality assurance on output from the courseware developer ensuring that it is technically and procedurally correct, properly presented and in accordance with the training plan
  • Create and maintain verification and validation work and test plans
  • Review system test plans and create and maintain training and mission scenario test plans
  • Use aircraft documentation to provide engineering support to software developers during integration activities
  • Test synthetic training devices to ensure the design and regulatory requirements have been adequately met within budget and schedule constraints as per the department guidelines and project contract
  • Support the customer during on site acceptance testing activities
  • Work with marketing to provide input to potential customers (as required), and assist with estimates for bids and proposals.
  • Maintain military and aviation publications
  • Resolve technical issues in collaboration with CFO Technical Services staff

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Graduate of Royal Canadian Air Force aircrew course (wings qualified)
  • Aircrew instructor (course code AIMB) is an asset
  • Tactical Aviation experience is an asset
  • Strong computer aptitude and willingness to learn new programs
