Job Description

Accor is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the Engineering Department, overseeing daily operations, maintenance, and repairs of hotel facilities and equipment. The role involves managing preventive and corrective maintenance, leading a team of engineers, handling departmental budgeting, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and implementing sustainability initiatives. Key responsibilities include managing capital improvement projects, contractor management, and preparing expenditure proposals. This position reports directly to the General Manager and requires strong leadership, budgeting, and troubleshooting skills.
Must have:
  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related)
  • 5-7 years engineering leadership experience in hospitality
  • Experience in hotel pre-opening projects
  • Knowledge of MEP, HVAC, and energy management
  • Strong budgeting and cost control skills
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance (health, safety, fire codes)
  • Collaborative leadership and team mentoring
  • Troubleshooting and crisis management skills
  • Continuous improvement mindset

Job Description

The Chief Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Engineering Department, ensuring the optimal functioning and maintenance of the hotel’s facilities and equipment. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this leadership role encompasses managing preventive and corrective maintenance, leading and mentoring a team of engineers, handling departmental budgeting, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and implementing sustainability initiatives to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the engineering team, promoting a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Oversee the preventive and corrective maintenance of hotel facilities, ensuring operational efficiency and guest comfort.
  • Ensure adherence to local regulations, including fire safety, WHS, and other relevant laws.
  • Lead capital improvement projects, handle contractor management, and carry out maintenance work as needed.
  • Design and implement energy-saving solutions and sustainable practices.
  • Monitor departmental budgets, control costs, and produce quarterly and monthly maintenance reports.
  • Work closely with other hotel departments to ensure minimal disruption and enhance overall guest experience.
  • Prepare and submit capital expenditure proposals, and manage associated projects.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field); professional certifications or a master’s degree are a plus.

  • 5–7 years of engineering leadership experience in high-end hospitality environments, ideally with exposure to iconic or design-driven properties.

  • Proven success in pre-opening or opening hotel projects, with the ability to build systems, processes, and teams from the ground up.

  • Deep knowledge of MEP, HVAC, building automation systems, and energy management strategies.

  • Strong track record in budgeting, cost control, and vendor management, with a focus on long-term efficiency and sustainability.

  • Excellent understanding of regulatory compliance, including health, safety, fire codes, and environmental standards—both local and international.

  • A collaborative leadership style, with the ability to inspire and mentor a diverse engineering team.

  • Solutions-focused mindset with strong troubleshooting and crisis management skills.

  • Clear, confident communicator who can build partnerships across departments and with external contractors.

  • A drive for continuous improvement, always staying ahead of trends in engineering technology and luxury service standards.
