Job Summary
J.S. Held is seeking a contract Civil Structural Engineer-In-Training (EIT) to perform forensic investigations, damage assessments, and evaluations of structural and building envelope systems for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. The role involves field observations, data collection, and report preparation under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, State EI-certification, and be prepared for the P.E. exam within 1-3 years. Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills are essential, along with physical ability for site work.
Must Have
- Conduct field observations and data collection.
- Prepare reports detailing observations made and results obtained.
- Work alongside and under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer.
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
- Hold State EI-certification.
- Be prepared to take the P.E. exam within one to three years of employment.
- Demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Be able to travel to various project sites and conduct field investigations.
- Be able to work at heights.
- Be able to work in hot and cold environments, both indoors and outdoors.
- Be able to periodically access and work on roofs, scaffolds, lifts, and other elevated surfaces and in enclosed spaces (attics, crawlspaces, etc.) with appropriate personal protection.
- Be able to lift, transport, set up, and utilize an extension ladder to access roofs and other elevated surfaces.
- Be physically able to climb, stand, walk, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.

Job Description
We are seeking a Civil Structural Engineer-In-Training (EIT) to join our team on a contract to enhance our already robust team of professionals supporting our clients throughout the US. Our engineers routinely perform forensic investigations, provide consultation, prepare and deliver technical papers; and serve as expert witnesses. Areas of practice to include damage or other failure assessments and evaluations to residential, commercial, and industrial buildings’ structural systems and building envelope systems such as roofing, claddings, and fenestrations. Travel to project sites, with on-site inspection activities, is required. Active involvement in professional associations and societies is encouraged and supported.
Job Responsibilities
- Conducts field observations and data collection.
- Prepares reports detailing observations made and results obtained.
- Work is conducted alongside, and under the supervision and responsible charge of a licensed professional engineer.
Qualifications

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $90k - $140k. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
