Job Summary

The iCloud Services team is seeking a CloudKit Client Software Engineer to build secure and private cloud foundations. This role involves developing device-to-device encrypted storage and protected computation, collaborating with CloudKit, server, cryptography, and privacy teams. The position requires expertise in low-level (C/Objective-C, libdispatch, POSIX APIs) and system-level skills (synchronization protocols, framework design, IPCs, multi-process performance), with a strong focus on reliability and seamless error recovery for complex systems.

Must Have

  • Collaborate with adopters to craft clear APIs
  • Work with the network and file system stacks to build performant daemons
  • Partner with our server counterparts to design scalable features and protocols
  • Implement core components of the cryptographic protection of cloud data
  • 3+ years of software engineering experience with strong programming skills in Objective-C and/or Swift
  • Experience building on Apple Platforms (macOS, iOS, watchOS, tvOS, etc.)
  • Experience in building system-level frameworks and APIs
  • Excellent communication
  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering-related field or equivalent related experience

Good to Have

  • Experience in Swift concurrency
  • Experience with event-based programming or inter-process communication
  • Proven track record of working on rapid development cycles and shipping software on tight schedules

Job Description

The iCloud Services team includes iCloud Platform iCloud SRE iCloud Data Science and Data Engineering. The team ensures the availability high performance and efficiency of iCloud services as well as security and data privacy. iCloud Services includes Enterprise and Education. Enterprise builds products and services to help organizations of all shapes and sizes do their work using Apple products while Education delivers great teaching and learning experiences.

We work on the client-side of iCloud services, building the foundations for a secure and private cloud from device-to-device encrypted storage in the cloud to protected computation. Apple’s commitment to privacy runs deep, and this team is key to extending this commitment to the cloud. This position will involve close collaboration with the CloudKit team, several teams working on server components, as well as Apple’s Cryptography and Privacy teams. This job entails both low-level (C/Objective-C, libdispatch, POSIX APIs) and system-level skills (synchronization protocols, framework design, IPCs, multi-process performance work, system-wide resource sharing). Reliability is essential, and we’re looking for engineers with a real passion for building complex systems that will seamlessly recover in the event of errors.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $139,500 and $258,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
