Job Description

The Component Design Engineer for Transmissions and Structures at Rolls-Royce is a full-time, hybrid role in Indianapolis, IN. This specialist position involves applying deep technical knowledge to develop and maintain critical power systems. Responsibilities include leading capability projects, solving complex technical problems, collaborating with internal and external networks, and providing technical direction to junior professionals. The role supports strategy execution, defines standards, and ensures knowledge sharing within the specialism, contributing significantly to innovation and problem resolution.
Good To Have:

  • Design or manufacturing experience working with composite materials and/or technical ceramics.
  • Experience with component design methods, tools, and practices, including CAD (NX Unigraphics or equivalent), Teamcenter, Metaphase PDM, and Systems Engineering tools.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and tolerance stacks.
  • New product introduction (NPI) project or equivalent product design, verification, and certification experience.
  • High integrity, good work ethics, strong drive, with a customer focus.
Must Have:
  • Lead definition and execution of capability projects.
  • Resolve technical, compliance, and business problems.
  • Provide technical direction and leadership to teams.
  • Support skill definition and deliver training.
  • Ensure adoption of policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Lead knowledge sharing and best practice implementation.
  • Hold a Bachelor's (5+ years exp), Master's (3+ years exp), or PhD in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering.

What you will be doing

  • Strategy: Supports the development and execution of the strategy with respect to their area of specialism; is regarded as a thought leader.
  • Project Definition: Leads the definition of capability projects including capturing requirements, creating proposals, achieving stakeholder approval, acquiring funding and aligning partner support.
  • Capability Development: Supports the development and application of new capabilities; leads capability development projects.
  • Problem Solving: Leads the resolution of new and emerging technical, compliance and business problems using analytical processes and professional judgement.
  • Collaboration: Proactively accesses internal and external networks of fellow specialists to further the understanding of the specialist subject; supports the implementation of strategic collaborative relationships.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 5+ years of experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 3+ years of experience, OR
