The Compute Chipset Project Engineer will lead the overall engineering efforts for a Compute Chipset, encompassing multiple chips and related software, firmware, and reference hardware. This role involves planning and executing the chipset's development from concept to commercialization, ensuring adherence to engineering KPIs like cost, timeliness, stability, and performance. The engineer will work closely with program and product managers, and engineering leads, to ensure the timely launch of customer devices. Responsibilities include resolving engineering issues, communicating project status to executives, and interacting with customers. The position requires influencing and overseeing various aspects of chipset development, setting guidelines, and interacting with customers.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's in Engineering or related field with 8+ years experience.
  • 5+ years in a technical leadership role in semiconductor development.
  • Experience in planning and executing chipsets through all phases.
  • Ability to resolve engineering issues across subsystems and components.
Good to have:
  • Master's or Ph.D. in a related field.
  • 15+ years of semiconductor product development experience.
  • Experience balancing KPIs and costs.
  • Experience managing project costs.
  • Experience working in a large matrixed organization.

General Summary:

We are looking for an overall engineering lead for a Compute Chipset. A Compute Chipset comprises multiple chips that together perform the functions of a compute device (such as Application Processor, PMICs, Audio, Connectivity, Modem), as well as the associated software, firmware and reference hardware. 

Responsible for planning and execution of the chipset through all phases from concept to commercialization across all engineering teams, including meeting all engineering KPIs such as cost, timeliness, stability, reliability, performance, and power. 

Works closely with chipset Program Manager, chipset Product Manager, and leads from various engineering teams to ensure delivery of silicon, software, reference hardware, test, documentation, and tools to enable on-time launch of customer devices in the market. Ultimately responsible for driving resolution of all engineering issues on the chipset whether within a specific subsystem, or across subsystems, functions, and chipset components. Final point of escalation for customer engineering issues. Responsible for clearly communicating engineering status of the project to executives. Works in a highly matrixed environment. This role frequently requires working with others to fulfill job responsibilities without direct authority

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 8+ years of Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 7+ years of Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 6+ years of Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or related work experience.

• 8+ years of experience in one or more areas of semiconductor product development.
• 5+ years in a technical leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.  

•    15+ years of experience in one or more areas of semiconductor product development (e.g., system design, architecture, silicon design and validation, SW development and test). 

•    5+ years of experience balancing tradeoffs between product KPIs and costs. 

•    5+ years of experience managing project costs. 

•    4+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization. 

•    3+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with executive leadership. 

•    Prior experience in the PC or gaming industry

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Leverages expert knowledge to influence and oversee chipset development, system architecture, firmware/software, and reference hardware development; ensures that all deliverables perform to specification.

•    Oversees the resolution of all engineering issues on the chipset whether within a specific subsystem, or across subsystems, functions, and chipset components.

•    Outlines schedules, costs, requirements, and KPIs (e.g., power, performance, reliability) from concept to commercialization.

•    Influences development of new methodology for verification of KPIs (performance, power, and quality) of all components across the chipset; provides technical oversight to teams conducting hardware, software, or systems-level testing, verification, and validation to ensure project plans and specifications are met.

•    Sets guidelines for writing detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions; writes and reviews documentation.

•    Interacts with customers frequently, delivering technical presentations as well as collecting feedback to integrate as appropriate

•    Influences, provides direction and guidance to leads and managers who may not be direct reports

•    Decision-making is critical in nature and highly impacts program, product, or project success.

•    Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey highly complex and/or detailed information. May require strong negotiation and influence with large groups or high-level constituents.

•    Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance standards for functional area within the prescribed budgetary objectives of the department. 

•    Has influence over the formulation and achievement of long-term business plans and objectives.

•    Tasks often require multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; extensive planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:

$211,900.00 - $317,900.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted.
