Job Highlight:
In this position, you will coordinate strategic Data and Monitoring initiatives applied to forest and landscape restoration in Brazil. You will lead the development and implementation of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) methodologies, integrating geospatial data, socioeconomic and environmental indicators, and promoting the use of digital platforms to strengthen transparency, resource mobilization, and evidence-based decision-making.
The position requires solid experience in data science, environmental project monitoring, technical team coordination, and collaboration with national and international partners, including governments, civil society, the private sector, universities, and local communities.
What you will do:
Coordination and technical leadership
- Coordinate technical teams and projects related to restoration monitoring and data management, including planning, budgeting, activity tracking, and performance indicators.
- Lead the consolidation of WRI Brazil's MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) strategy for forest and landscape restoration, aligned with national and international standards.
- Supervise the production of technical and scientific reports, indicator dashboards, and thematic publications, ensuring relevance, clarity, and methodological basis.
Data management and integration
- Perform curation and improvement of databases, dashboards, digital platforms, and geospatial tools aimed at landscape monitoring.
- Ensure the quality, consistency, and security of data generated and used in projects.
- Define, implement, and review progress, impact, and co-benefit indicators for restoration, including biophysical, socioeconomic, financial, and bioeconomy dimensions.
Institutional articulation and partnerships
- Collaborate with external partners (NGOs, governments, academia, private sector, and local communities) for data collection, validation, analysis, and sharing, fostering integration with other platforms.
- Represent WRI Brazil in technical forums, events, coalitions, and national and international working groups on environmental data, MRV, and restoration.
- Support the preparation of proposals and conceptual notes for fundraising to strengthen the data and monitoring agenda.
Strategic data application
- Use data to generate evidence-based technical recommendations and public policies, addressing topics such as assisted natural regeneration, bioeconomy and climate change adaptation.
- Develop innovative visualizations and analytical products to support decision-making, transparency, and resource mobilization for ecological restoration.
What you will need:
- Degree in Forestry Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Ecology, Data Science, Geoprocessing, Statistics, or related fields.
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years coordinating technical projects in third-sector organizations, government, or the private sector.
- Solid knowledge in restoration monitoring, remote sensing, geoprocessing, environmental indicators, and data use for analysis and reporting.
- Proficiency in tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine, as well as programming languages (R, Python, PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
- Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI or similar).
- Proven experience in managing technical teams and multidisciplinary processes.
- Knowledge of environmental public policies and national and international MRV frameworks.
- Ability to articulate and engage with different sectors of society.
- Fluent English.
