Job Description

The Data Scientist III is an expert in building data-driven solutions that transform our customers’ digital services. They work closely with project teams, SMEs, and leaders across different departments to uncover opportunities where data can propel our customers’ missions, inspire changes and new opportunities, and ensure technical excellence in our data projects or initiatives. This role supports the modernization and maintenance of critical federal technology systems, rebuilding legacy platforms on modern cloud architectures, improving performance and security, enabling data-driven decision making, and ensuring reliable, continuous operations. Responsibilities include guiding and mentoring on AI/ML solutions, evaluating customer needs, developing custom data models and algorithms, and collaborating with stakeholders.
Good To Have:
  • MS or PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Math, or other quantitative fields
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, full-stack development, and platform solutions
  • Experience working with other digital services disciplines

Must Have:

The Impact You Will Create:

This Total ITRegs project supports the modernization and maintenance of critical federal technology systems that serve both agencies and the public. The work spans system development, modernization, and 24/7 operations — including rebuilding legacy platforms on modern cloud architectures, improving performance and security, enabling data-driven decision making, and ensuring reliable, continuous operations. The teams collaborate closely with stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and user-friendly solutions that strengthen government services and enhance public engagement.

Your Responsibilities in This Role:

  • Guides and mentors the organization on the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions.
  • Grows a community within Fearless around machine learning and artificial intelligence for technical and ethical excellence.
  • Coaches the workforce to recognize and identify data opportunities and generate solutions.
  • Evaluates customer needs and advises on benefits and risks of potential artificial intelligence solutions.
  • Mentors customers to grow their understanding of AI's impact and develop skills in machine learning solutions.
  • Research industry trends, advising customers on applicable solutions.
  • Defines the system for project documentation, including business goals, data processes, and analytical metrics.
  • Develops custom data models, algorithms, and predictive models.
  • Builds and maintains predictive models and machine learning algorithms.
  • Stitches, calibrates, and optimizes sparse and noisy data across various sources.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to understand business problems, define KPIs, and deliver insightful analysis.
  • Works with stakeholders to understand potential impacts of models in development.
  • Supports organizational success by conducting analysis and proposing machine learning solutions in response to RFIs, RFPs, and solicitations.
  • Collaborates with the BD team to communicate deep learning and machine learning concepts.
  • Develops and tells cohesive stories about proposed technology solutions.
  • Supports the development of proposals, including shaping opportunities, creation, and oral presentations.

  • Advanced experience with deep learning tools and at least one machine learning tool, such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, or cloud-provider equivalents.
  • Advanced experience in data processing and data annotation.
  • Advanced experience with visualization tools and techniques like D3 Dash, ggplot, Tableau, or equivalents.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cloud computing technologies such as Azure, Databricks, AWS, Google Cloud Platform.
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.
  • Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, build relationships, and influence others.
