This role is for a Deputy Head of Operations (Sortation) who will ensure efficient operations and achieve budgetary and service level agreements. The position involves strategic coordination of general management issues, including supervisor management, and taking ownership of all Sort Warehouse KPIs and Sort Automation Performance. Key responsibilities include managing hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, performance evaluation, and directing day-to-day sort operations. The role also emphasizes ensuring safety, quality, and service standards, meeting cost and productivity goals, and fostering a safety-conscious culture.
Must have:
- 3-5 years experience in production or logistics, focused on Sort Operations.
- Proven experience managing a team for at least 24 months.
- Ability to inspire a shared vision and motivate a team.
- Ability to build professional rapport and positively influence diverse groups.
- Sound business judgment to establish and accomplish goals.
- Customer service skills for effective communication.
- Verbal and written communication skills for instruction and audience interaction.

About the unit:
Sort Unit is responsible for the parcel handling and sorting system, which is the middle stage in the parcel delivery cycle. Thru the Company's various warehouse and consolidation hub operations, the Sort Unit ensures that the full sorting cycle runs efficiently to avoid delays in the parcel delivery cycle.
Job Description:
A Deputy Head of Sort is responsible for ensuring efficient operations whilst achieving agreed budgetary and service levels. The role will hold a strategic role and deal with coordinating general management issues including the management of supervisors. Takes ownership of all Sort Warehouse KPIs, Sort Automation Performance; analyzes reports and data submitted by the Supervisors.
Main Responsibilities:
Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to: hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, performance evaluation and management, discipline, addressing employee concerns and staff productivity.
Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the day-to-day operations of the assigned sort.
Ensures the sort (Automation and Manual) are running in accordance with established safety, quality and service standards. Ensures that cost and productivity goals are met.
Oversees or ensures daily visual inspections of loads to ensure proper quality for customers and/or vendors.
Determines the sort’s strategic goals and ensures quality, service, cost and productivity goals are achieved. Plans sort strategy based on projected volume, head count, and other special circumstances and factors.
Directs and guides the sort management team to ensure common understanding of operational updates and daily goals for the work area.
Fosters a safety-conscious culture by supporting safety initiatives and ensuring appropriate related documentation is completed as necessary.
Participates in the development of and responsible for administering company safety strategies and programs.
Participates in the development of and responsible for administering company employee relations strategies, including maintaining the confidentiality of such material and matters.
Ensures compliance with Company policy and federal, state and local regulations.
Understands and administers all contractual agreements effectively, including vendor and Contracted Service Provider agreements, as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 3-5 yrs experience in the production or logistics industry focused in Sort Operations
Has proven experience managing a team for at least 24 months
Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team.
Demonstrated ability to build professional rapport, effectively lead a team and positively influence diverse groups.
Proven ability to apply sound business judgement to establish and accomplish goals.
Customer service skills necessary to effectively and professionally respond to requests and issues.
Verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with various audiences and ability to effectively provide employees instruction on process and practice.
