MatrixSpace is seeking a mission-driven and hands-on technology leader to join our growing team as Director of IT & Security. This role will report directly to the Vice President and General Manager and will lead all company-wide information technology and cybersecurity efforts. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with the ability to shape scalable, secure systems that support a rapidly evolving business.

Position Overview

The Director of IT & Security is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing MatrixSpace’s IT infrastructure and security programs. This role blends hands-on technical execution with strategic leadership, helping to build and mature our IT and security capabilities to meet industry best practices and compliance standards. The position will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration between IT operations and technology development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all aspects of IT infrastructure, including Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Intune, site-to-site VPN management, and internal network infrastructure management.
• Develop, implement, and maintain cybersecurity policies, controls, and compliance aligned with NIST 800-53, RMF, and related frameworks.
• Oversee endpoint management, cloud infrastructure, and hosted services security.
• Lead incident response, risk management, and vulnerability remediation efforts.
• Evaluate and evolve the company’s identity and access management approach.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to align IT and security practices with technology development and deployment.
• Build and manage vendor relationships and technology procurement, with budget approval from executive leadership.
• Serve as a hands-on leader—capable of both strategy and direct system implementation or troubleshooting.
• Plan and grow a small IT/Security team as the company continues to scale.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of IT infrastructure and cybersecurity experience
• Experience with Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Azure AD, Intune, Defender, Endpoint management).
• Strong hands-on experience with networking and security (firewalls, VPNs, Security Fabric).
• Familiarity with cloud or hybrid environments (e.g. AWS, Azure, or equivalent).
• Practical knowledge of NIST 800-53, RMF, and related security frameworks.
• Experience leading incident response, risk assessments, and compliance audits.
• Comfort operating in a fast-paced startup environment with cross-functional collaboration.

Location & Work Environment

This position requires some on-site presence at MatrixSpace facilities, with flexibility for some remote work. The role involves close collaboration with leadership, engineering, and operations teams, making in-person engagement essential for success. Some travel (up to 20%) required for support of IT functions across sites (Chicago).
