Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Editorial Rights Advisor to provide expert advice on contracts, policies, and workflows related to rights acquisition for content. This role involves supporting the Team Manager in developing guidelines and processes, and providing key support in cross-department projects. The advisor will handle queries, monitor recurring issues, ensure compliance, and assist with project implementation for workflow and policy changes.
Must have:
  • Provide expert advice on rights agreements for content and third-party content permissions
  • Identify, record, and monitor recurring issues and query patterns
  • Work with Team Manager to ensure rights agreements reflect business and legal needs
  • Provide active quality control checks for compliance and policy alignment
  • Assist in responding to requests for evidence of content rights
  • Support implementation of effective workflows and strategies to streamline licensing processes
  • Process internal file requests, ensuring rights approvals are in place
  • Assist with department projects, planning and implementing workflow and policy changes
  • Administer / work with legal documentation, including contract editing and advising on copyright
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy
  • Work with query/issue tracker systems (e.g., Freshdesk, Trello, Smartsheet)
  • Quickly learn internal systems related to job function
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills to manage multiple issues and deadlines
  • Be a team player, able to nurture relationships with in-house staff
  • Educated to degree level
Good to have:
  • Degree in law
  • Fluent in English and German, both orally and written

About the Role

We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to provide expert advice to colleagues across Springer Nature on contracts, policies and workflows relating to rights acquisition for content and on contracting workflows. You’ll support the Team Manager in developing guidelines and processes and providing key support in cross department projects.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice to queries related to rights agreements for content, and for agreed areas of the business on the rights to use text, images, permissions for third party content, ensuring queries are responded to within target turnaround times, are answered adequately and escalated appropriately when a business/legal decision is required.
  • Identify, record and monitor recurring issues and query patterns and work with the Team Manager to provide solutions to minimise further queries, including the escalation to ERD, Legal and the business to ensure resolution.
  • Work with the Team Manager to ensure that rights agreements reflect business and legal needs and that special requirements are met and managed appropriately, provide active quality control checks to ensure basic compliance criteria have been met and amendments are in line with our business policies. Assist in responding promptly to requests for evidence that the business area has secured appropriate content rights.
  • Support the Team Manager to work with the business to implement effective workflows and strategies to streamline licensing processes. Process internal file requests via internal publishing systems, ensuring that internal rights approvals are in place before the release of files.
  • Assist with department projects, working with the Editorial Rights team to plan and implement projects for workflow and policy changes. Completing tasks on time, keeping assigned project logs updated to ensure the overall success of deliverables.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Essential

  • Administering / working with legal documentation, including contract editing and advising on copyright
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work to a specified list of priorities with speed and accuracy
  • Working with query/issue tracker systems, such as Freshdesk, trello, smartsheet etc.
  • Ability to quickly learn internal systems related to job function
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to assimilate often complex information and relay it to others in a clear and accessible manner
  • Strong organisational skills to deal with multiple issues at one time, working with tight deadlines
  • Team player, able to work with Springer Nature in-house staff and nurture relationships
  • Educated to degree level

Desirable

  • Degree in law (strongly preferred)
  • Fluent in English and German, both orally and written
