Job Summary

Job Description

You will be responsible for leading industrial safety, property security, health, environmental, and energy programs, policies, and initiatives at the plant. The main responsibilities of this position are to recognize, assess, and control potential risk exposures associated with EHS&S activities and to achieve continuous improvement and sustained performance in all areas of EHS&S.
Must have:
  • Provide leadership to implement consistent EHS&S systems.
  • Manage, advise, and implement/update EHS&S systems across manufacturing operations.
  • Measure, audit, and evaluate the effectiveness of EHS&S management systems and programs.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of integrity, credibility, and accountability within EHS&S.
  • Act as a liaison in the implementation of corporate EHS&S initiatives.
  • Prepare the budget related to EHS&S services and supplies.
  • Promote cost reductions through consolidation of service providers and standardization of supplies.
  • Identify need for EHS&S training programs and provide education to internal clients.
  • Support, train, mentor, and establish professional development plans for staff.
  • Manage internal and external relationships as needed.
  • Maintain cutting-edge knowledge of internal and external regulations, practices, tools, and processes.
  • Participate in Environmental Management Safety, Energy Management System, and Occupational Safety System.
  • Lead the plant's Environmental Management System, Energy Management System, and Occupational Safety System.
  • Stop processes in case of deviation.
  • Authorize expenses related to your area.
  • Report to senior management on the performance of management systems.
  • Ensure Occupational Safety, Environmental Management, and Energy Management Systems comply with PHINIA systems.
  • Ensure consultation and participation of workers.
  • Conduct timely investigation of accidents, identify root causes, and rapidly correct contributing factors.
  • Facilitate employee participation in developing, implementing, and updating safety and health plans.
  • Enforce safety and health rules and procedures.
  • Observe work tasks to detect and correct unsafe acts.
  • Ensure specific safety procedures are established through occupational hazard analysis and risk assessment.
  • Member of the Energy Management Committee.
  • Internal auditor and leader of management systems.
  • Participate in the Annual Final Inventory.

JOB PURPOSE

You will be responsible for leading industrial safety, property security, health, environmental, and energy programs, policies, and initiatives at the plant. The main responsibilities of this position are to recognize, assess, and control potential risk exposures associated with EHS&S activities and to achieve continuous improvement and sustained performance in all areas of EHS&S.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to implement consistent EHS&S systems, including control designs, methods, procedures, and programs.
  • Manage, advise, and implement/update these systems across all manufacturing operations, based on compliance with corporate standards, government regulations, and lessons learned.
  • Measure, audit, and evaluate the effectiveness of EHS&S management systems and programs using existing PHINIA tools and programs. This includes, but is not limited to, the following areas.
  • Industrial safety and hygiene, occupational health and environmental management system, asset security (C-TPAT), ergonomics, fire protection systems.
  • Risk assessment and job design.
  • Facilities and asset security.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of integrity, credibility, and accountability within the EHS&S function.
  • Act as a liaison in the implementation of corporate EHS&S initiatives.
  • Prepare the budget related to EHS & S services and supplies.
  • Promote actions to take advantage of cost reductions through the consolidation of service providers (doctors, legal consultants, etc.) and standardize supplies (PPE, medical, etc.).
  • Identify the need to design and build EHS&S training programs and provide education to all internal clients.
  • Support, train, mentor, and establish professional development plans for your staff.
  • Manage internal (including all management) and external (government agencies, consultants, insurers, legal, industrial parks, neighbors, etc.) relationships as needed.
  • Maintain cutting-edge knowledge of internal and external regulations, practices, tools, and processes, and communicate these best practices to the organization.
  • Senior management participant in Environmental Management Safety, Energy Management System, and Occupational Safety System.
  • Leader of the plant's Environmental Management System, Energy Management System, and Occupational Safety System.
  • Stop processes in case of deviation.
  • Authorize expenses related to your area.
  • Report to senior management on the performance of management systems, Environmental Management System, Energy Management System, Occupational Safety System.
  • Ensure that the Occupational Safety System, Environmental Management System, and Energy Management System are compliant with PHINIA systems.
  • Ensure consultation and participation of workers.
  • Conduct timely investigation of accidents, identification of root causes, and rapid correction of contributing factors.
  • Facilitate employee participation in the development, implementation, and updating of safety and health plans and procedures.

What we’re looking for

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety Specialist, Administration, or related field.

Experience in a similar position: 10 years or more of experience with increasing responsibility.

Technical knowledge required: 5 years or more as an EHS&S manager, strong understanding of EHS&S practices, NOM regulations.

Other requirements: Microsoft Office, ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO50001. The ability to lead a team and provide direction and leadership is essential. A Master's degree and certification as a Lead Auditor in ISO45001 are preferred.
