Our Electronics Testers II is a skilled role responsible for supporting the testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of locomotive electronic devices. This position performs hands-on work inspecting, identifying failures, and replacing non-conforming parts in electronic devices. Key responsibilities include conducting functional tests on electronic products at various assembly stages, performing basic repairs using soldering techniques, reloading software, and preparing devices for testing according to defined procedures. The role also involves operating test equipment, assisting in diagnosing low-medium complexity issues, and interpreting technical drawings to ensure quality standards are met.
Must have:
  • Perform functional tests on electronic products at various stages of assembly.
  • Conduct basic repairs on electronic boards and harnesses using soldering techniques.
  • Reload software and prepare devices for testing using defined procedures.
  • Operate test equipment and tools commonly used in electronics assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in diagnosing low-medium complexity issues at the board level.
  • Interpret and follow technical drawings and standard test procedures.
  • Visually inspect product for quality, labeling and component placement.
  • Identify and locate appropriate product documentation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Complete daily work orders/schedule based on productivity levels assigned by supervisors and line leads.
  • Adapt to changing priorities based on customer demands.
  • Work with IPC 610 recent IPC training, and ESD protocols.
  • Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
  • Repair and replace electronic components executing engineering instructions which include soldering techniques/requirements.
  • Meet quality standards in line with internal quality assurance requirements, AAR and FRA protocols.
  • Maintain electronics test equipment and ensure test equipment is within calibration date.
  • Monitor and manage chemical shelf life.
  • Willing to cross-train and support other team members as needed.
  • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized on a daily basis.
  • Follow 5S protocol.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Familiarity with common test equipment, i.e., oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal/function generators, frequency counters, ESS Chamber, etc.
  • Ability to read, understand and analyze schematic drawings.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, test procedures, engineering and graphic work instructions, and technical documentations – accurately and consistently in English.
  • Experience in stand-alone testing of electronic boards.
  • Basic soldering experience and ability to use precision hand tools.
Good to have:
  • Associate’s degree in electronic technology, or Equivalent military certification or work experience in electronics repair.
  • +1 years of experience in electronic testing, troubleshooting or electronics assembly.
  • Background in electronics testing or new electronics manufacturing or remanufacturing production. Prior military electronics experience will be equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to receive, implement feedback and adapt process, procedural or behavioral changes as needed.

Job Details

Summary:

Our Electronics Testers II is a skilled role responsible for supporting the testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of locomotive electronic devices. This position performs hand-on work inspecting, identifying failures and replacing non-conforming parts in electronic devices.

  • Regular schedule is Monday – Thursday: 5:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Variations on this schedule will be communicated upon hire.

Location: KRC 4800 Deramus Ave Kansas City, MO 64120

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform functional tests on electronic products at various stages of assembly.
  • Conduct basic repairs on electronic boards and harnesses using soldering techniques.
  • Reload software and prepare devices for testing using defined procedures.
  • Operate test equipment and tools commonly used in electronics assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in diagnosing low-medium complexity issues at the board level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good working knowledge and experience with testing electronics
  • Familiar with IPC 610, recent IPC training, and ESD protocols
  • Background in electronics testing or new electronics manufacturing or remanufacturing production. Prior military electronics experience will be equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft OS, HyperTerminal, Pro-comm, or Tera Term software for testing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to receive, implement feedback and adapt process, procedural or behavioral changes as needed.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $23/hr.

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
