Job Description

KIPP Chicago is seeking Elementary Music Teachers for the SY 25-26 school year. The role involves teaching music as an "Excellence Class" to elementary students, utilizing pre-existing curricula and contributing to school-wide performances. Responsibilities include mission alignment, student success belief, professional growth, and antiracism commitment. Teachers will develop and implement engaging instruction using aligned curriculum, progress-monitoring tools, and differentiation strategies. Key duties involve managing classroom culture, ensuring student affirmation, establishing strong communication with students and families, and contributing to school-wide culture development. Support includes an Apple Mac laptop, mobile phone stipend, daily prep period, data analysis and planning time, SEL curriculum, professional development, principal presence, weekly team collaboration, and a supportive staff.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Illinois Professional Educators License with Music or Elementary Education Endorsement
  • Cleared CPS Background check

KIPP Chicago Elementary Music Teachers 

At KIPP Chicago our elementary students have daily class experiences in non-academic subject areas, and we call these “Excellence Classes.”  Different positions are open at each school, including Music Teacher, Drama Teacher, Dance Teacher, and Art Teacher.  There are pre-existing curricula that have been used successfully and the content and structure of the class are determined largely by your expertise as the teacher.  All of the positions require participating in and leading school-wide performances and shows throughout the year.

As a KIPP Chicago Teacher, your core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Mission Alignment

  • A belief that all students can and will be successful

  • A growth mindset about oneself and all others at the school, including a commitment to professional growth and development

  • A commitment to the mission and vision of KIPP Chicago and the pursuit of antiracism in our schools and work together

  • Regular and reliable on-site attendance is essential to performing the responsibilities of this role.

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Use our aligned regional curriculum for all subject areas, including assessing students in accordance with aligned curriculum 

  • Use progress-monitoring tools to analyze student results for the purpose of modifying and adjusting instruction

  • Provide students with daily feedback on performance and plan for individual learning needs

  • Use best practices, including differentiation with instructional technology and other techniques, to execute engaging instruction at a rigorous level for all students

Care of Students and Commitment to School and Classroom Culture 

  • Ensure that all students are affirmed, valued, and challenged every day

  • Use best practices in alignment with school-wide systems to manage student behavior and create a safe, warm, demanding, and joyful classroom environment

  • Establish and maintain strong lines of communication with students and their families and share progress

  • Help develop school-wide culture that best fits the needs of our students, staff, and families

Qualifications

The requirements for a Elementary Music Teacher are:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)

  • Illinois Professional Educators License and Music or Elementary Education Endorsement (required)

  • At least two years’ prior success teaching in urban communities (strongly preferred)

  • A cleared CPS Background check before start of employment (required)
