Job Description

This role is for an Engineering Manager to lead the Frontend Platform Team, responsible for system-wide functionality like authentication, system design, and common frontend libraries. The manager will lead 4 software engineers across UK and Romania, focusing on coaching, mentoring, and empowering the team. Responsibilities include driving recruitment, conducting performance reviews, defining objectives with Product, and ensuring continuous improvement in software delivery. The role requires a strong technical background to unblock delivery and contribute to architecture decisions, fostering a safe and communicative environment.
Must have:
  • Coach and mentor engineers, fostering their growth and career development.
  • Drive recruitment efforts and ensure successful onboarding for new team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews, track individual development plans, and provide regular feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with the Product Manager to define team objectives and OKRs.
  • Enable the team to take ownership of the software delivery lifecycle and drive continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate discussions and decision-making processes within the team, resolving conflicts when necessary.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and promote a culture of learning within the team.
  • Manage team capacity and availability, approving absence requests as needed.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Engineering Management group.
  • Contribute to frontend architecture decisions and design choices.
  • At least 8 years of experience in the Software Engineering industry.
  • At least 2 years of experience as an Engineering Manager or engineering leadership position.
  • Hands-on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS.
  • Experience with Angular, React, Vue and micro-frontend architecture.
  • Good understanding of fundamental design principles, data modeling, API design.
  • Ability to understand, explain and discuss software architecture designs, diagrams and documentation.
  • Consider long-term technical strategy, economic viability, interactions between components, compatibility issues, reuse by other systems or teams.
  • Use data to inform decision-making and driving change, and introduce monitoring where not available.

  • Good knowledge of agile development processes and current best practices.
  • Open, clear and efficient communication around technical and non-technical topics, able to adopt language based on audience.
  • Analytical thinking, strong problem-solving ability.

Purpose of Position

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Frontend Platform Team.

Frontend Platform team is responsible for key system-wide functionality and products like authentication, system design, common frontend libraries or general frontend performance. The team works closely with frontend engineers, designers and product manager to make sure our web applications are built consistently across all teams.

You will be responsible for directly leading 4 software engineers, spread across UK, Romania and potentially other of our engineering hubs.

In this role you coach and mentor your team members, empower them to act autonomously, establish clear ownership and build strong knowledge centers. You are passionate about building high-performing teams and helping your team members grow. You own the delivery of commitments and are always looking to improve productivity. You coordinate across teams and departments as needed to accomplish goals, including, but not limited to, Product, DevOps, UX, InfoSec, and more.

You will foster a safe environment where decisions are delegated and can be communicated effectively. We don’t expect you to be hands-on but we expect you to be technical. So you have a strong technical background in software building and you can help your team unblock delivery if necessary.

Skill and Expertise:

  • You have at least 8 years of experience in the Software Engineering industry.
  • You have at least 2 years of experience as an Engineering Manager or any other engineering leadership position. Technical Leads welcome.
  • You have hands-on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS.
  • You have experience with Angular, React, Vue and micro-frontend architecture.
  • You have a good understanding of fundamental design principles, data modeling, API design, etc. You are generally passionate about software building.
  • You can understand, explain and discuss software architecture designs, diagrams and documentation. Can contribute to creation of new software designs in collaboration with other team members.
  • You consider long-term technical strategy, economic viability, interactions between components, compatibility issues, reuse by other systems or teams. You are able to understand, articulate and consider technical problems.
  • You use data to inform your decision-making and driving change, and where not available you take meaningful steps to introduce monitoring to improve the quality of decision-making.
