Engineering Manager

Mimecast is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Gateway Security team within the Threat Protection group. This role involves leading and scaling high-performing teams, supporting individual growth, and developing cutting-edge scanning technology for email traffic. The manager will collaborate globally, manage technical risks, drive continuous improvement, and optimize AWS usage, contributing to a platform that scans over 2 billion emails, files, and URLs daily.

Must Have

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams distributed globally to define project milestones and deliverables.
• Engage closely with HR and Recruitment teams to attract, onboard, scale, and retain exceptional engineering talent.
• Have experience managing teams working at scale with on-prem and/or cloud technologies.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks associated with projects.
• Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging standards and best practices.
• Monitor and analyze AWS usage for cost savings recommendations.
• Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Successful track record of project leadership, including planning, execution, and delivery.
• Strong technical background in software engineering, with hands-on experience in designing and developing backend services at scale within AWS.
• Experience in building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience in establishing and enforcing coding standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes.

What You’ll Do:

As an Engineering Manager for the Gateway Security team, you will be instrumental in forming and scaling high-performing teams, offering dedicated support for individual growth and career progression. Your responsibilities will include:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams distributed globally, including Product Managers, Project Managers, Architects, and Engineers, to define project milestones and deliverables.
• Engage closely with the HR and Recruitment teams to attract, onboard, scale, and retain exceptional engineering talent.
• Have experience managing teams working at scale with on prem and/or cloud technologies
• Identify and mitigate technical risks associated with projects, ensuring smooth and reliable operation.
• Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture, ensuring effective communication and knowledge sharing.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging standards and best practices, to maintain high-quality software development.
• Monitor and analyze AWS usage, working with senior management and engineer teams to provide recommendations for cost savings.

What You’ll Bring:

• Strong communication skills with experience in effectively communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Successful track record of project leadership, including planning, execution, and delivery of complex projects with predictability.
• Strong technical background in software engineering, with hands-on experience in designing and developing backend services at scale within AWS.
• Experience in building and scaling high-performing engineering teams, including recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing talent development.
• Experience in establishing and enforcing coding standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes to maintain high-quality software development.
• Experience managing hybrid cloud environments is advantegeous

The base salary range for this position is £76,000−£114,000 plus benefits. This range represents the minimum and maximum new hire compensation for this role. The position may also be eligible for incentive plans and additional benefits, in accordance with company policy and local regulations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location with individual compensation also dependent on factors such as qualifications, experience, and skills. Final offers will reflect these considerations and may vary accordingly.
