Job Summary
Oura is forming a new Software Innovation Team of exceptional engineers to explore and build ambitious new ideas that can reshape the Oura experience. This team operates with a startup energy, focusing on discovering and delivering new ways to radically improve the Oura experience for members or transform how the company builds software. The role involves turning theories into practice, testing ideas, and iterating quickly, with a focus on the software layer through apps, platforms, and internal tools. The position is open to all seniority levels, with scope matched to background and experience.

We are forming a new Software Innovation Team at Oura, a small, focused group of exceptional engineers (2–3 people) exploring and building ambitious new ideas that can reshape what Oura makes possible. The goal is simple but ambitious: discover and deliver new ways to radically improve the Oura experience for our members, or transform how we build software as a company.
We set our own ambition levels high and aren’t afraid to take risks. We operate with an early-stage startup energy inside Oura: curious, fast-moving, and driven to turn bold ideas into tangible prototypes, MVPs, and potentially full-fledged products. We take pride in building, learning, and iterating until the impact is real. We’re also not afraid to kill our own ideas and start from a blank slate.
We’re looking for exceptional builders who love to challenge what’s possible and make it into reality. Maybe you’ve founded or been a founding engineer in a startup, driven the innovations within a company, or pushed your limits in competitions from hackathons to international science olympiads. What matters most is a relentless curiosity and drive to create something new, something no one else has made.
You will be one of the founding team members of the Software Innovation Team, helping define how it operates. We believe innovation comes not only from experience, but from fresh thinking and the ability to learn exceptionally fast. So, the position is not strictly limited to any seniority level. The role’s seniority and scope will be matched by your background and experience.
This role is based in our Helsinki office in Finland. The role will be hybrid in nature - meeting & working with relevant stakeholders face-to-face is essential. Due to our timelines, we are looking for a person that is already based in Finland.
What You’ll Do
As one of the founding members of the Software Innovation Team, you will help define how the team operates. There’s no predetermined roadmap. Together as a team, we will take responsibility for finding, discovering, and exploring new ideas that have potential to move the needle for Oura. We will start by turning theories into practice, testing what works and what doesn’t, and actively killing the ideas that fail to show real impact.
Some projects will focus on creating entirely new user experiences, while others will re-imagine how we build and ship software at Oura. Our team’s focus is on the software layer. Driving change through our apps, platforms, and internal tools.
You should feel confident and excited to dive into new tools and technologies whenever needed to bring an idea to life. We move fast and stay hands-on. If something needs to be built, we build it.
On the technology side, you will be building app prototypes in Swift and Kotlin, spinning up a Python service on AWS, or testing experiments in TypeScript and React Native. Some days you will explore data pipelines, and others you might collaborate with our Science and Hardware teams. You will certainly explore new possibilities with LLMs and the latest ML models.

You’re an inventive, highly capable, hands-on builder who thrives when starting from zero. You’re just as comfortable turning a rough idea into a working prototype as you are diving deep into existing large codebases to analyze, and refine it fast. You understand that great ideas aren’t born perfect, they evolve through experimentation and great execution.
You have experience bringing new products, features, or prototypes to life: whether through startups, research, or innovation projects. You have a strong technical background and the exceptional ability to learn new technologies quickly. You care deeply about impact and about creating something people genuinely love to use. You’re comfortable failing, learning, and starting again.
