Job Description

As a Software Engineering Manager at Google Cloud, you'll build, develop, and manage a team of Software Engineers, contributing technically and providing guidance. You'll guide the team through priorities, balancing short-term and long-term goals, and establish high technical standards ensuring code quality, reliability, and performance. Responsibilities include empowering team leadership, setting technical direction, planning deliverables, driving execution, meeting deadlines, communicating status, and engaging with internal and external teams. The role requires managing a large product budget and overseeing international project deployments. The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) and extensive experience in software development and technical leadership, including people management.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent
8+ years software development experience
3+ years technical leadership
2+ years people management
Team management and guidance
High technical standards
Project delivery and execution

Good to have:

Master's or PhD in CS
Experience in a matrixed organization

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Experience working in a matrixed organization.

Responsibilities

Build, Develop and Manage a team of Software Engineers, make direct technical contributions, and provide guidance to team members. Guide the team through engaged priorities and balance short-term needs versus long-term strategic goals.
Establish and maintain high technical standards, ensuring code quality, reliability, and performance.
Empower and grow the team’s leadership and technical impact with teamwork, cross-functional collaboration, and technical excellence.
Set the technical direction and plan deliverables and milestones. Drive execution, meet deadlines, and communicate status.
Participate in engineering engagement with internal teams across sites and external partners, and influence and manage relationships with them.
