Job Description

Join White Hat Gaming's Engineering team to build world-class iGaming software. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a talented team of developers, fostering their growth and driving innovation. This role focuses on leadership, team management, and process improvement, rather than hands-on engineering. You will collaborate with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Developers to shape the future of gaming technology in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Must have:
  • Provide effective leadership and guidance to developers.
  • Develop comprehensive onboarding programs for new developers.
  • Support developers to promote high employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Maintain regular communication with developers, discussing development and career plans.
  • Conduct bi-annual performance reviews based on defined competencies.
  • Facilitate constructive conflict resolution and promote a positive team dynamic.
  • Offer ad-hoc assistance to developers during personal or professional difficulty.
  • Coordinate and manage holiday schedules within the team.
  • Stay up-to-date with team and company roadmaps for resource allocation.
  • Assess recruitment needs, write job specifications, and raise requisitions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Management to identify and implement improvements.
  • Review and enhance engineering and programming practices within the team.
  • Proactively and reactively work to address impediments to developers’ and team success.
  • Maintain a strong focus on quality in all aspects of software development.
  • Encourage adoption of practices to improve team collaboration and output.
  • Ensure merge requests follow established procedures and Git contribution rules.
  • Assist the Scrum Master in coaching the team in effective Scrum practices.
  • 5+ years of experience as a developer/software engineer in a corporate environment.
  • Previous experience writing White Label Native & Hybrid Apps or leading such teams.
  • 2+ years of hands-off technical management experience with direct reporting-line responsibility.
  • A collaborative and forward-leaning leadership style.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of managing and developing effective relationships.
  • Strong appreciation for software engineering best practices, Agile and other SDLC practices.

As an Engineering Manager, you'll work closely with Scrum Masters, Product Owners/Managers, and Developers to drive innovation and make a difference. Note: This job is not a hands-on engineering role, and responsibilities may evolve as the department progresses, and the successful candidate demonstrates competencies.

Your day to day:

  • Line-Management: Provide effective leadership and guidance to a diverse team of developers, fostering their professional growth and ensuring their needs are met.
  • Onboarding: Develop comprehensive materials and onboarding programs for new developers to facilitate their smooth integration into the team.
  • Retention: Support all developers and create an environment where their needs are met, promoting high employee satisfaction and retention rates.
  • 1-on-1s with Developers: Maintain regular communication with developers, discussing their development and career plans, and providing feedback on their performance.
  • Performance Evaluations: Conduct bi-annual performance reviews based on defined competencies and make recommendations for promotions and salary reviews.
  • Conflict Resolution: Facilitate constructive conflict resolution and promote a positive team dynamic, intervening when conflicts become personal.
  • Support for Team Members: Offer ad-hoc assistance to developers during times of personal or professional difficulty to ensure their well-being and productivity.
  • Holiday Management: Coordinate and manage holiday schedules within the team, ensuring adequate coverage and minimal disruption to projects.
  • Resource Planning: Stay up-to-date with the team and company roadmaps to ensure adequate resource allocation in terms of skill sets and team size.
  • Recruitment: Assess recruitment needs in a timely manner, write compelling job specifications, and raise requisitions to attract top talent to the team.
  • Collaboration with Engineering Management: Collaborate with the Engineering Management function to identify and implement improvements in processes, procedures, people, organisation, communication, staff development, engineering excellence, technical support, planning, and data-driven decision making.
  • Reviewing Engineering Practices: Review and enhance engineering and programming practices within the team to achieve the highest levels of excellence.
  • Address Impediments: Proactively and reactively work to address impediments to developers’ and team success.
  • Quality Focus: Maintain a strong focus on quality in all aspects of software development, ensuring adherence to coding standards, code coverage, linting rules, peer reviews, and application of the testing pyramid.
  • Encourage adoption of practices which can improve the team’s collaboration and output, such as pair programming, periodic brainstorming sessions, mobbing, etc.
  • Process Adherence: Ensure that merge requests follow established procedures and that Git project contribution rules are followed.
  • Agile Practices: Assist the Scrum Master in coaching the team in effective Scrum practices and methodology, ensuring the team strives for continuous improvement.

What we are looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience as a developer/software engineer in a corporate environment, with a solid understanding of different design patterns, architectural approaches, CI/CD, source control, and experience in some of TDD/BDD/ATDD, Agile, LEAN, and XP.
  • Previous experience of writing White Label Native & Hybrid Apps, or current experience leading a team writing such apps.
  • 2+ years of hands-off technical management experience with direct reporting-line responsibility for software developers.
  • A collaborative and forward-leaning leadership style.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of managing and developing effective relationships with all disciplines and levels.
  • Strong appreciation for software engineering best practices, Agile and other SDLC practices, team health, and developer skill sets and aptitude.
  • Experience in iGaming software development is advantageous but not essential.
