Job Description

This role is for an Engineering Manager leading a global team in Vehicle Control (VC), Traction & Auxiliary Controls Design for Locomotive controls. Responsibilities include managing design engineers, owning technical domains, leading discussions and reviews, strategic workforce planning, and ensuring on-time delivery with safety, quality, and reliability goals. The manager will also focus on people management, performance assessment, career development, and risk resolution.
Good To Have:

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's / Master's degree in Electrical/Power Electronics/Control system Engineering.
  • At least 12 years’ experience in Engineering in similar/relevant field, preferably in Engineering/Technical Leadership roles.
  • Hands-on experience with the design and development of control algorithms.
  • Good working knowledge of controls and requirements tools such as MATLAB, Simulink/Stateflow or DOORS.
  • Proven analytical, interpersonal, communication, organization, planning and leadership skills.

Role Summary/Purpose

  • Subsection Engineering manager for Vehicle Control (VC), Traction & Auxiliary Controls Design team. This is a global team which owns Locomotive controls design for Vehicle Control, Traction and Aux control design and implementation responsibility.
  • In this role, the individual is responsible for managing a global team of design engineers in Locomotive Vehicle Control, Traction & Auxiliary Controls domain.
  • This role will have responsibility of people management, technical domain ownership, leading technical discussions, design reviews, build strategic workforce planning, upward/downward communications and work within the metrics organization and manage stakeholders.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Establish team priorities /goals in alignment with business goals and needs.
  • Involve and support team in technical discussions and lead technical reviews in the areas of VC, Traction and Auxiliary Control design areas.
  • Anticipate, Identify and resolve technical program/technical risks and work with the team and other stakeholders to retire the identified risks.
  • Responsible for day-to-day communications, performance assessment and feedback, career counselling, professional development, employee rewards and recognition, and resolving personnel issues and managing a team.
  • Ensure business metrics are met
  • Ensure on time delivery with Safety, Quality and reliability goals met.
  • Provide project staffing support with recruiting, interviews and hiring.
  • Responsible for recommending employees for raises and promotions. Will provide detailed employee performance feedback, periodic 1-on-1 meetings, annual mid-term, and end of year performance appraisals.
  • Evaluate current budget and project requirements and assure you have adequate staff.
  • Provide coaching, career pathing, and growth plans for team members.
  • Work with team members across various geographic locations and time zones.
  • Effective delegation and task monitoring/tracking.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's / Master's degree in Electrical/Power Electronics/Control system Engineering.
  • At least 12 years’ experience in Engineering in similar/relevant field, preferably in Engineering/Technical Leadership roles.
  • Hands on experience with the design and development of control algorithms in above fields.
  • Good working knowledge on controls and requirements tools such as MATLAB, Simulink/Stateflow or DOORS etc.
