Autodesk is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team in advancing Computational Design, Automation, and Agentic technologies for the AECO sector. This role involves defining product vision, technical strategy, and ensuring seamless integration of workflow automation tools into Autodesk's product suite. The manager will guide the team in understanding requirements, evaluating new features, and fostering a high-performance culture, while collaborating across functions and supporting robust production systems.

Must Have

  • 7+ years of professional experience in software development
  • 3-5 years of managing or leading software development teams
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Previous experience designing, deploying, and maintaining modern web/cloud applications
  • Proven expertise with front-end web development using UI libraries such as React and working with Typescript/Javascript
  • Proven expertise with modern desktop technologies: C++, C#, .NET/.NET Core
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks
  • Experience with Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, DevOps
  • Understanding of network protocols, security best practices, and load balancing
  • Experience in working in an Agile environment
  • Experience in working with distributed teams

Position Overview

Autodesk is transforming the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Owner (AECO) sector by enhancing existing Computational Design and Automation methods with cutting-edge Agentic technologies, seamlessly integrating them into products such as Revit, Civil 3D, Construction Cloud, and Forma.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will leverage your advanced development expertise and proven experience in team leadership to drive the next wave of Computational Design, Automation, and Agentic technologies across our AEC portfolio. You will lead a multidisciplinary team including software engineers, designers, and industry experts to define product vision and technical strategy. Your role will ensure the seamless integration of sophisticated workflow automation tools within Autodesk’s product suite and tailored cloud solutions for the industry.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is passionate about tackling complex customer challenges, excels in navigating ambiguity, and can effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining a clear strategic focus. This position reports to the Director of Computational Design and Automation within the AECO organization, and you will oversee a team of Software Engineers. Autodesk offers flexible, hybrid work arrangements, with key home offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with technical leads, researchers, and product managers to define exploratory goals actively evaluating value of proof-of-concept solutions
  • Guide your team to understand requirements, evaluate new features, new architecture and help drive decisions
  • Define for the team's technical strategy and facilitate technical discussions including clear documentation of architecture and technical decisions
  • Explore technical opportunities with the team fostering, a deep understanding of the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of the software products your team delivers
  • Build and foster a high-performance culture, mentor team members and provide your team with the tools and motivation to get things done
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate across offices and time zones and across various functions including engineers, Product Owners, Product Managers, Software Architects / Tech Leads, and key stakeholders within other organizations
  • Partner with project managers to define and communicate roadmap and success metrics
  • Support delivery of highly available production systems, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and maintainable
  • Actively contribute to the threat modeling and security architecture design to ensure our services maintain an appropriate threat mitigation stance
  • Participate in team development meetings, including daily scrum, planning, code reviews, and quality assurance activities
  • Stay up to date with evolving Autodesk Product/API capabilities and external trends in the AEC space to proactively identify new opportunities for exploration
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in software and ML development
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment
  • Apply strategic thinking to shape and executing long-term initiatives that align with business objectives
