‘Play is how we learn’ is our core value, and our team of 50 people all bring something unique to the table. We’re looking for an experienced General Counsel to further strengthen the global compliance of our company wide operations, and to provide strategic advice on all legal matters.
What this job is about:
In this role you will have the opportunity to spearhead Poki's legal function and to have a significant impact across all aspects of our business. As our General Counsel you will be connected to all stakeholders of our platform: game developers, advertisers, players, and employees. Your responsibilities will cover a broad spectrum of legal areas, including commercial contracting, privacy and compliance, risk management, intellectual property, and employment law.
The work will be ever-evolving and exciting, just like Poki itself. You’ll solve complex legal issues facing the business, and act as a sparring partner for our COO, CFO, and CPO. You’ll collaborate closely with our commercial teams, and you’ll oversee the work of our specialised law firms. We’re looking for someone who understands our entrepreneurial mindset and adds to our playful culture.
Your challenge:
- 🔐 Oversee the privacy and global compliance of our platform. Be on top of regulatory changes and case law relevant to our business model. Map risks, trade-offs, and potential improvements. Architect our approach by bringing together all relevant stakeholders and perspectives. Be the central point of contact for our boutique law firm specialised in privacy and IT-contracting and coordinate their work.
- ⚖️ Contribute to the sustainability and future-proofing of Poki by building trust with over 60 million players, our community of 400+ game developers, our network of advertisers, brands and industry partners. Be our external spokesperson on privacy and compliance; tell our story, embody our mission, explain our business model, and defend trade-offs.
- ⚙️ Take responsibility for drafting, negotiating, and managing all critical commercial contracts. As Poki expands its platform to welcome more web game developers, you will tackle the legal challenges related to content management, terms of service, and potential breaches. You'll play a key role in advising on and automating the legal processes involved in self-service game publishing.
- ♟️ Lead Poki's legal department and provide expert, strategic legal advice to the leadership team on a wide range of issues. Work together with our Data Protection Officer, mentor our Legal Counsel and be willing to take a hands-on approach when needed. Enhance the overall compliance of Poki's operations, and help establish scalable processes for intellectual property protection and HR requirements.
You:
- 8-10 years experience, of which 4 years at a leading law firm or within the legal team of an international tech platform
- Experience in commercial law practice or a civil law background, affinity with privacy law, and acted as an in-house legal counsel or in-house lawyer
- Have an understanding of digital products and the dynamics of a platform business model
- Have an entrepreneurial mindset, and enjoy the balancing act of weighing risks and opportunities
- Are able to think out-of-the-box and have excellent communication skills in Dutch and English
