Head of Design

As Lila’s Head of Design, you will lead Lila’s product and industrial design, shaping user journeys across the Lila App and Autonomous Science labs. You will define workflows, prototype innovative interfaces, and collaborate across teams to ensure a unified, intuitive, and efficient app for science. You will build the vision and execution of coherent, brand-aligned design across digital and physical products, including end-to-end native app design, wireframes, interactive prototypes, high-fidelity designs, and a cohesive design system.

Must Have

• 8+ years of experience in digital product design, preferably in SaaS or data-intensive applications.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating work from research and wireframing to polished visual designs.
• Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, and modern LLM-generated rapid prototypes.
• Deep understanding of interaction design, information architecture, and accessibility best practices.
• Extreme openness to leveraging the latest AI tools.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Good to Have

• Experience in life sciences, biotech, or scientific research software.
• Familiarity with data visualization libraries or principles (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js, Plotly).
• Basic front-end prototyping skills (HTML/CSS/JavaScript).
• Prior involvement in building or scaling a design system.

What You'll Be Building

• The vision for and the execution of a coherent, brand-aligned design across digital and physical products
• End-to-end design of native app to power scientists
• Wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that translate user needs into clear interfaces.
• A cohesive design system, including components, guidelines, and documentation for consistency and scalability.
• Collaborative feedback loops with engineers, data scientists, and product managers to refine and implement designs.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Compensation

We expect the base salary for this role to fall between $260,000-346,000 USD per year, along with bonus potential and generous early equity. The final offer will reflect your unique background, expertise, and impact.
