Job Description

HOPR is building the next generation of network-level privacy infrastructure through a decentralized mixnet protocol, ensuring data travels across the internet without metadata leakage. As a Mobile Engineer, you will be a core contributor to GnosisVPN, the first product launching natively on top of HOPR. Your role will involve driving the development of the client on mobile platforms, with an initial focus on iOS, building a performant and usable app, enhancing usability, writing Swift code, integrating Rust code, and interfacing with the core HOPR protocol team.
Must Have:
  • Work with a helpful and experienced team to build an iOS VPN app which feels native, is performant and usable at every stage.
  • Enhance the usability of the client, which may also include UX improvements to the desktop clients.
  • Read and write code in Swift.
  • Integrate Rust code (HOPR client library) into iOS.
  • Interface with the core HOPR protocol team to provide feedback on performance or usability bottlenecks.
  • Familiarity with iOS native development and specifically integration into the VPN subsystem.
  • Experience with long-running, background apps.
  • Love to make UX on mobile frictionless and robust.
  • Appreciate the hard-won thrill of debugging a knotty problem to root cause.
  • Believe in fully documenting your ideas for your colleagues and future self.

##### What you will do

About HOPR

HOPR is building the next generation of network-level privacy infrastructure through a decentralized mixnet protocol. We're creating technology that allows data to travel across the internet without metadata leakage—protecting not just what you say, but who you're talking to. Our protocol is fully open-source and designed for decentralized deployment.

As we scale our network and bring the first product using it to market, we need systems engineers who can optimize low-level networking performance while maintaining the security guarantees that make HOPR unique.

The role

You'll be a core contributor to GnosisVPN, the first product launching natively on top of HOPR. You will drive the development of the client on mobile platforms, with an initial focus on iOS.

  • Work with a helpful and experienced team to build an iOS VPN app which feels native, is performant and usable at every stage
  • Enhance the usability of the client, which may also include UX improvements to the desktop clients
  • Read and write code in Swift. All the code will be open-source.
  • Integrate Rust code (HOPR client library) into iOS
  • Interface with the core HOPR protocol team as well to provide feedback on performance or usability bottlenecks which are best solved on the lowest layer
