Large Market Business Developer
We are seeking a talented individual to join our Region Market Development team and drive revenue growth in a portfolio of large/jumbo client accounts. This role will be based in our Chicago office.
As a Sales Professional in Mercer you will be asked to learn complex lines of business and develop sales strategies that create dynamic product offerings that solve some of the most critical challenges facing employers in healthcare, financial security, and career development. Your sales career at Mercer will bring you to a new level of skills in collaboration, critical thinking and industry visibility. Make an impact as a Business Development professional supporting new client acquisition in the large and jumbo client segment (5,000+ employees or $2B+ revenue). This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
We will count on you to:
- Pursue an account list of approximately 40-50 prospects in the large and jumbo client space
- Achieve sales goals by gaining large, high-yield accounts through referrals and frequent interactions with prospect executives
- Apply highly developed market and internal service offering insights to sales cold calls to generate interest and engage potential clients
- Create sales proposals and RFP responses which effectively address prospect needs and communicate Mercers value proposition
- Develop and execute a multi-faceted pursuit plan to successfully increase market penetration with large and jumbo clients
- Facilitate the sales process for large accounts; apply issue-led selling skills to understand account needs, lead the sales proposal, coach and engage pursuit team for finalist presentations, and manage the pricing and scope negotiation process through contract signature
- Leverage an advanced understanding of all Mercer XLOB solutions and offerings to gain access and build relationships with prospects
- Identify opportunities and work across MMC businesses to present the collective value of our products and solutions to prospects
- Partner with local business leaders to develop and execute on a market sales strategy
What you need to have:
- Articulation of your sales funnel
- How you identify, research, profile, and prospect large and jumbo segment accounts.
- Talk through your sales strategies, including how you gain meetings and identify key decision makers
- Illustrate your process of managing a prospect through a long tail sales cycle
- Prove your track record of meeting and exceeding sales goals
- Share 2-3 examples of large and jumbo account wins and be ready to verify with numbers

Marsh McLennan is committed to hybrid work, which includes the flexibility of working remotely and the collaboration, connections and professional development benefits of working together in the office. All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $212,000 to $318,000.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
