Job Description

Salesforce is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering for the Omnichannel Inventory (OCI) team, which manages a high-scale inventory service integral to Commerce products. This role involves building strong relationships with engineering teams, aligning priorities with the organization and Product Management, and ensuring team well-being and effectiveness. The manager will lead engineering workstreams, foster psychological safety, and drive career growth while collaborating on creative solutions to complex problems.
Must have:
  • 1-3+ years of experience managing service-based software engineering teams
  • 1+ years experience managing distributed teams
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse team members
  • Ability to work effectively with peer managers
  • Ability to manage in a technical environment (software engineering or systems infrastructure background preferred)
  • Deep understanding of software engineers' needs
  • A related technical degree
  • Ability to articulate vision and provide direction
  • Plan, organize, lead, and oversee engineering workstreams
  • Cultivate and maintain psychological safety within your team
  • Act as the agile scrum coach for your team
  • People management (hiring, onboarding, professional development)
  • Project management (tools, process, methodologies, resolving blockage)
  • Participate in the manager on-call rotation
Good to have:
  • Experience implementing or managing teams responsible for running and maintaining a service, including containerized applications using Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
  • Experience implementing or managing a team responsible for operating a web-scale platform using AWS
  • Experience as an engineer operating complex systems or managing teams with operational responsibilities
  • Experience participating in and/or managing an on-call rotation

The Omnichannel Inventory (OCI) team manages the Inventory service, a high-scale service integral to Commerce products such as Order Management System (OMS), B2C, and B2B. For this role, you will need to know how to create strong relationships with your engineering teams, align priorities with your organization and with Product Management, establish shared context and resources, create effective boundaries, and let creativity flourish. You should be comfortable and skilled at ensuring the everyday well-being and effectiveness of your team and its members. You will know when to stay out of the way and when to intervene in the best interest of your team and the company. You look to create structure within your team to ensure their effort remains consistent and sustainable.

Management responsibility for Omnichannel Inventory, including:

  • Plan, organize, lead, and oversee engineering workstreams toward high-quality, on-time delivery
  • Cultivating and maintaining psychological safety within your team
  • Aligning team goals with departmental and company goals
  • Act as the agile scrum coach for your team
  • People management (hiring, onboarding, job satisfaction, professional development, etc.)
  • Project management (tools, process, methodologies, resolving blockage, etc.)
  • Understanding our customer’s needs in partnership with full-time product managers
  • Participate in the manager on-call rotation to support our Engineers during incidents

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • 1 - 3+ years of experience managing service based software engineering teams
  • 1+ years experience managing distributed teams
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members who may be remote or local, from diverse cultural backgrounds, about a range of technical and organizational subjects
  • Ability to work effectively with peer managers throughout the organization to agree and achieve shared goals
  • Ability to manage in a technical environment (software engineering or systems infrastructure background preferred)
  • Must deeply understand the needs of software engineers, both as team members and as customers
  • A related technical degree required

Helpful Prior Experience

  • Experience implementing or managing teams responsible for running and maintaining a service, including containerized applications using Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
  • Experience implementing or managing a team responsible for operating a web-scale platform using AWS
  • Experience as an engineer operating complex systems or managing teams with operational responsibilities
  • Experience participating in and/or managing an on-call rotation

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $172,000 to $236,500.

For Massachusetts based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $157,600 to $216,700.
