Job Description

As a Gameplay Engineering Lead at Bungie, you will collaborate closely with other engineers to build and enhance the gameplay sandbox for the game Marathon. You will be responsible for learning the game's gameplay systems and networked gameplay architecture, and will help formulate strategies for extending the sandbox in a live-service environment. This role involves guiding a team of five gameplay sandbox engineers, collaborating with design leads to develop technical solutions, and managing two to four gameplay engineers by providing support, technical mentorship, constructive feedback, and career development coaching. You will also be a key decision-maker for technical aspects within the gameplay area. The ideal candidate will have experience building and maintaining production-quality C++ code, designing and building player gameplay features, and effectively communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

As a Gameplay Engineering Lead at Bungie, you will collaborate with other engineers to build and enhance Marathon's gameplay sandbox. You will learn how Marathon’s gameplay systems work, you will learn our networked gameplay architecture, and you will help formulate our strategy for extending the sandbox in a constantly evolving live-service environment. Most importantly, you will work with a fun and dedicated team devoted to creating world-class gaming experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guide five Marathon gameplay sandbox engineers
  • Collaborate with design leads to develop technical solutions that meet their needs
  • Manage two to four gameplay engineers, providing support, technical mentorship, constructive feedback, and career development coaching
  • Be a driver, decision-maker, or guide for technical decision-making in the area, as appropriate

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to build and maintain production quality C++ code
  • Experience designing and building player gameplay features
  • Effective communication with fellow engineers to jointly design, write, and review code through team consensus and alignment
  • Ability to communicate with customers from both technical and non-technical backgrounds to help them navigate technology and achieve their goals
  • Mathematics background in trigonometry, linear algebra, and calculus

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • Experience leading (managing, mentoring, or guiding) engineers through planning, developing, and shipping is a huge plus
  • Experience with entity-component architectures for implementing gameplay
  • Experience working on a live service game
  • Experience working on networked gameplay
Listed below is this role's base pay range. In other locations that Bungie has approved for remote work, this pay range may be adjusted up to +/- 10% and some roles may be classified as non-exempt (hourly). 

This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
