Job Summary
Progress (Nasdaq: PRGS) is seeking a Marketing Data Engineer, Principal to join their Marketing Operations team. This role involves designing and implementing robust data pipelines for ingesting, normalizing, and segmenting customer data from various sources. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, cloud platforms, and customer data management, supporting demand generation and field marketing teams. Key responsibilities include data transformation, pipeline automation, data quality assurance, and collaboration with data scientists and marketing teams.
Must Have
- Transform raw data into usable formats.
- Deploy and automate data transformation pipelines.
- Design and maintain scalable data ETL pipelines.
- Configure data sources, destinations, and event tracking.
- Implement data normalization processes.
- Validate audiences/segments and journey workflows.
- Perform ongoing data quality assurance.
- Monitor and optimize data workflows.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation.
- Troubleshoot data and platform issues.
- Collaborate with data scientists and marketing teams.
- Lead complex data projects and mentor.
- Translate complex concepts for stakeholders.
- Manage multiple tasks independently.

- Promote best practices in marketing data handling.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or related.
- 6+ years in data engineering.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT, data warehousing.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA).
- Knowledge of data governance best practices.
- Ability to create and manage data objects.
- Familiarity with master data management.
- Experience with data integration from various sources.
- Experience working with large data sets.
- General API knowledge.
- Knowledge of data normalization techniques.
- Understanding of ID resolution and customer profile unification in Unity.
- Ability to monitor data flows and resolve anomalies.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data pipeline frameworks.
Good to Have
- Familiarity with CRM (e.g., Salesforce).
- Familiarity with Marketing Automation Platforms (e.g., Eloqua, Marketo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud).
- Familiarity with Customer Data Platforms (e.g., Oracle Unity, Segment, Salesforce Data Cloud, Adobe Experience Platform).
- Knowledge in JSON/XML, Eloqua, Salesforce, Snowflake.

In this role, you will join the Marketing Operations team to support the needs of Progress’ diverse and growing demand generation and field marketing teams. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Engineer for designing and implementing robust data pipelines for ingestion, normalization, and segmentation of customer data from various sources. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, cloud platforms, and customer data management.
In this role, you will:
Data Engineering & Pipeline Management
- Transform raw data into clean, structured, and usable formats.
- Deploy and automate data transformation pipelines using scalable tools and frameworks.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data ETL pipelines to integrate data from multiple sources.
Configuration & Data Quality
- Configuring data sources, destinations, and event tracking mechanisms between Data Warehouse, ABM, Web Personalization and MAP tools to ensure accurate customer data integration.
- Develop and implement data normalization processes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and usability of customer data.
- Own the creation, testing, and validation of audiences/segments and journey workflows to enable targeted marketing activities.
- Utilize and train out-of-the-box AI/machine-learning models
- Perform ongoing data quality assurance, including monitoring and verifying data accuracy across marketing systems
- Monitor and optimize data workflows for performance, scalability, and reliability.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of platform configurations, operational workflows, and testing protocols to support team knowledge-sharing and smooth platform operation.
- Troubleshoot data and platform issues promptly and collaborate with engineering teams and external vendors to escalate and resolve complex technical problems.
- Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and marketing teams to deliver actionable datasets.
- Lead complex data projects, propose innovative solutions, and mentor others in solving technical challenges.
- Translate complex concepts into clear proposals and updates for stakeholders.
- Works independently and efficiently, managing multiple tasks, priorities, and projects simultaneously and successfully.
Strategic & Analytical Thinking
- Stay current with innovations in data management and propose strategies for marketing data orchestration.
- Promote best practices in marketing data handling and integration.
Your background:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 6+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing concepts.
- Familiarity with CRM (e.g., Salesforce) is a plus.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and best practices in data governance.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
