This full-time, in-person position focuses on optimizing and maintaining the mechanical systems within Apple data centers, ensuring their efficiency and performance. The role involves bridging the technical and operational aspects of infrastructure, with a focus on HVAC systems, cooling strategies, and energy efficiency. Collaboration with engineers, IT professionals, and facility managers is essential to develop and implement efficient solutions. The engineer will be the primary operational mechanical engineering resource, providing technical advice and support throughout the lifecycle of the data centers. Continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends are critical for bringing innovative solutions to critical data center operations. Responsibilities include hands-on field operations, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance of mechanical equipment, planning procedures, coordinating with teams, providing QA/QC oversight, supervising asset health, contributing to the mechanical safety program, leading RCA, and proposing data center upgrades.
Must have:
  • Expertise in mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment operations
  • Experience with troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment
  • Ability to develop and implement operations procedures
  • Experience in QA/QC oversight for construction and maintenance
  • Knowledge of mechanical safety programs and incident response
  • Ability to lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

Job Details

This full time in-person position will play a crucial role in optimizing and maintaining the mechanical systems that ensure the efficiency and performance of Apple data centers. You will bridge the technical and operational aspects of infrastructure, focusing on HVAC systems, cooling strategies, free-cooling technologies, water quality and consumption, and energy efficiency measures to meet the cooling requirements within the data center. You will collaborate with various partners to including engineers, IT professionals, and facility managers, to develop and implement efficient solutions that improve capacity, availability, energy efficiency, and sustainability. Additionally, you will act as the primary operational mechanical engineering resource for the data center campus, providing technical advice and support throughout the entire lifecycle of Apple data centers—from project initiation to continuous improvement. This role requires continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends and technologies, ensuring that you bring innovative and efficient solutions to critical data center operations. Responsibilities Act as the onsite technical expert for mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment, focusing on hands-on field operations Conduct or oversee hands-on troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance of mechanical equipment Plan resource, author, or approve operations procedures for mechanical repair, retrofit, and maintenance, emphasizing risk mitigation Coordinate across teams to implement organizational initiatives, processes and maintenance strategies in alignment with standards Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) oversight for construction projects and maintenance activities Supervise asset age and health, and create predictive plans and procedures for replacement or refurbishment to prevent failures and/or reduce downtime Contribute to the mechanical safety program, training, procedural development/review and incident response Lead and/or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify mechanical equipment failures, and develop effective Remediation Plans to address and resolve issues Propose data center upgrades to enhance efficiency, capacity, and reliability Produce technical reports with recommendations to mitigate availability risks
