The MFP A1 at Warner Bros. Discovery is responsible for setting up and mixing live sports productions, primarily live games, at Techwood Studios and remotely. This role involves managing audio mixes, ensuring they meet broadcast specifications and artistic vision. The A1 will oversee A2s, manage intercom systems, plan remote audio connections, and liaise with other departments. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, documentation, and ensuring the smooth operation of audio and communication systems, both on-site and remotely. The position requires extensive experience in live remote sports audio mixing and a strong understanding of audio consoles, IP-based networks, and intercom systems.
Must have:
  • 5+ years Live Remote Sports Audio Mixing (A1)
  • 5+ years Live Remote Sports RTS experience
  • Large format audio consoles & Cloud-based systems knowledge
  • VUE router UI knowledge
  • Strong leadership & communication skills
Good to have:
  • Dante Level 2/3 Certification
  • Live News Production experience
  • RTS certification
  • Calrec consoles and Calrec RP1 knowledge

Your New Role...
The MFP A1 will set up and mix Live Sports Productions (majority live games) at Techwood Studios in the MFP production model and will be required to perform the same job in a fully remote workflow when these productions travel.  The MFP A1 will work with the Senior Audio Technical Specialist to ensure the best operational usage of audio and communication systems (intercom, router, audio consoles, IP-based audio networks, etc.) utilized for Production. Also, the MFP A1 will assist in ensuring that the systems will meet current needs along with projected needs.

Your Role Accountabilities...

LIVE SPORTS AUDIO MIXING (40%)

  • Mix Live Sports Productions (majority live games) at Techwood Studios in the MFP workflow(s) but will be required to handle the same shows when/if Production shifts to a full remote production.
  • Ensure all audio mixes for events are within accepted national broadcast specifications and satisfy the artistic vision of Production.
  • Manage A2(s) during productions, both on location (remote) and at Techwood Studios to ensure all of Productions goals are met.
  • Proactively create and maintain show and system backup files.
  • Document show needs and resource usage to ensure repeated successful applications.
  • Troubleshoot issues and determine best path(s) to the most effective solution.
  • Assist in translating needs and wants between Production, Engineering, and Operations

INTERCOM MANAGEMENT/PLANNING (30%)

  • Ensure the Intercom systems are fully operational and in a well-maintained, organized, and flexible state.
  • Assist in planning the operational use of intercom systems to meet Production’s needs, both in the present and future
  • Implement plans devised by Senior System Engineers
  • Actively monitor intercom systems during production to identify issues as they present and begin troubleshooting and repair before they are reported.
  • Establish and monitor remote intercom connections before production begins.
  • Proactively create and maintain show and system backup files.
  • Document show needs and resource usage to ensure repeated successful applications.
  • Troubleshoot issues and determine best path(s) to the most effective solution.
  • Assist in translating needs and wants between Production, Engineering, and Operations

REMOTE AUDIO SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT (20%)

  • Establish and monitor remote audio connections used in productions.
  • Assist in planning the best use of remote audio systems to accomplish production’s vision.
  • Implement plans devised by Senior System Engineers
  • Ensure that show A1s/Audio Operators know how to access remote audio resources.
  • Use Dante Controller to ensure paths are complete between systems, both local and remote
  • Setup and maintain remote announcer stations.
  • Troubleshoot issues and determine best path(s) to the most effective solution.
  • Assist in translating needs and wants between Production, Engineering, and Operations

LIAISE WITH PARTNERING DEPARTMENTS (10%)

  • Actively work with other departments (Engineering, Production, Facilities, Sr System Engineers, etc.) to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely, efficient, and organized manner in alignment with established timelines.
  • Communicate progress, setbacks, completion of projects with all interested parties.
  • Provide options to other departments on workflows and best practices regarding audio and communication systems.

Qualifications & Experiences...

  • Five years of experience with Live Remote Sports Audio Mixing (A1)
  • Five years of experience with Live Remote Sports RTS
  • Working knowledge of large format audio consoles and Cloud based audio systems.
  • Working knowledge of VUE router user interface
  • Must have strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
  • Attention to detail with superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Continued desire to learn and grow.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to different workflows.
  • Work equally well in groups and independently
  • Communicate effectively with every level of audio professional.

Not Required but preferred experience

  • Dante Level 2 Certification
  • Dante Level 3 Certification
  • Experience in Live News Production
  • RTS certification
  • Working knowledge of Calrec consoles and Calrec RP1
