The Modeling/Surfacing Supervisor will establish workflows, manage the modeling team, and train artists. They will collaborate with other Supervisors and Directors to ensure efficient asset transfer across departments, meeting creative and scheduling requirements. Responsibilities include mentoring and training modeling leads, defining best practices, guiding professional development, providing support for multiple DCCs, communicating with directors, working with the Rigging Supervisor, prioritizing asset tasks, and ensuring the best possible outcome.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of modeling leadership experience.
  • Experience in creation of all asset types is required.
  • Excellent understanding of modeling fundamentals.
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in the team.
  • Knowledge and experience with relevant software.

Overview

WildBrain Studios is looking for a Modeling/Surfacing Supervisor to join our team!   
  
In this role, you will be responsible for establishing workflows, managing the modeling team, and training artists. In addition, you will collaborate with other Supervisors and Directors to ensure that modeling assets are passed across departments with efficiency, while meeting the creative and scheduling requirements of the production.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

 

What you'll do:

  • Mentoring, training & assisting modeling Leads in both technical and creative capacities  
  • Define and maintain best practices and workflows for modeling/surfacing techniques, topology, naming, and other conventions to optimize asset creation
  • Assist in guiding the modeler/surfacer leads overall professional development by providing constructive criticism, wisdom, and guidance
  • Provide support and direction for multiple DCC’s, including but not limited to Maya, Z-brush, Substance Painter or Mari, Houdini, Gaffer, Katana or Solaris
  • Communicate and work closely with the Series Director, Art Director, and CG Supervisor to hit expected creative targets 
  • Work closely with the Rigging Supervisor to establish the best topology and conventions for both modeling and rigging needs
  • Prioritize asset tasks and best approach during breakdowns
  • Continually push the creative boundaries ensuring the best possible outcome is being realized within scope
  • Provide performance feedback to modeling/surfacing team
  • Assist Artist Management and Recruiting departments in the crew selection process
  • Responsible for all asset approval on show level

What you'll bring:

  • 5+ years of modeling leadership experience for film, television , or games. Feature experience in Animation and/or VFX preferred
  • Experience in creation of all asset types including characters, environments, vehicles and props is required 
  • Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of hard body and organic modeling including topography and blend shapes
  • An in depth understanding of USD workflows
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills  
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills  
  • Ability to identify strengths and weakness of modeling team  
  • A keen eye for complexity reduction and scalability
  • Ability to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work  
  • Proactive work ethic, capable problem solver with the ability to implement solutions  
  • Knowledge and experience with Python, Substance Suite, Gaffer (or Katana or Solaris), Houdini and Unreal Engine.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner  
  • Ability to adapt to multiple show styles  

 

Pay Range: $2115 - $2884 per week.

Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity.
