Job Description

Calix is seeking a passionate Optical Communications Engineer graduate with a strong foundation in signals & systems and communication theory. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to design and develop advanced optical interfaces for Calix Optical Access Networks, contributing to the definition and delivery of high-performance, scalable fiber broadband systems. Responsibilities include hands-on lab testing, signal analysis, system validation, and contributing to the integration of cutting-edge optical technologies. The role aims to bring first-class internet experiences to citizens, raising their standard of living and closing the digital divide by building the next generation of fiber optic networks.
Good To Have:
  • Exposure to tools like oscilloscopes
  • Exposure to BER testers
  • Exposure to Python for automation
  • Projects/coursework in coherent optics
  • Projects/coursework in ROADM
  • Projects/coursework in silicon photonics
  • Experience with optical modeling tools
  • Experience with embedded systems
Must Have:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field
  • 3 years of engineering experience in Optical Communications
  • Academic excellence in signals & systems

  • Familiarity with optical communication concepts
  • Interest in high-speed data transmission
  • Interest in IEEE 802.3 standards

Job Description:

  • Collaborate with experienced engineers to design and develop advanced optical interfaces for Calix Optical Access Networks.
  • Help define and deliver high-performance, scalable fiber broadband systems.
  • Participate in hands-on lab testing, signal analysis, and system validation.
  • Contribute to the integration of cutting-edge optical technologies from concept to deployment.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 Years of Engineering experience in Optical Communications.
  • Outstanding academic performance in signals & systems, communication theory, and photonics.
  • Familiarity with optical communication concepts like lasers, photodiodes, and fiber signal dispersion.
  • Interest in high-speed data transmission (10G to 400G) and IEEE 802.3 standards.
  • Exposure to tools like oscilloscopes, BER testers, and Python for automation is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Projects or coursework involving coherent optics, ROADM, or silicon photonics.
  • Experience with optical modeling tools or embedded systems.

Location:

  • Plymouth, MN (Hybrid)

Compensation will vary based on geographical location (see below) within the United States. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's location of residence and multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education.

98,900.00 - 167,900.00 USD Annual

All Other Locations:

86,000.00 - 146,000.00 USD Annual
