Job Description

Omitron is seeking an Orbital Analyst in Alexandria, VA, to ensure mission success in flight operations, trajectory design, and space domain awareness. The role involves monitoring, analyzing, and predicting space object behavior, ensuring satellite safety, and developing analytical products for government customers. The analyst will apply expertise in orbital mechanics and data evaluation, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support space operations and advance Omitron's leadership in the space industry.
Must have:
  • Perform comprehensive analysis of space objects’ orbital parameters.
  • Understand orbit determination, tracking, and prediction using mathematical models.
  • Understand orbital debris mitigation, satellite end-of-life disposal, and collision risk assessment.
  • Possess comprehensive understanding of Space Surveillance Network sensors and data.
  • Apply advanced orbital mechanics to real-world problems.
  • Compile statistics based on current space object population.
  • Collaborate with senior orbital analysts on collision risks.
  • US Citizenship and active TS/SCI with CI Poly security clearance.
  • Master’s degree with 2 years, or Bachelor's with 4, Associate's with 6, or 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like shell, Perl, or Python.
  • Robust understanding of space surveillance and tracking systems (radar, optical sensors).
  • Strong understanding of non-regular data message management.
Good to have:
  • 6+ years of experience involving space domain data.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA-Security).
  • Robust knowledge of orbital mechanics.
  • Experience with Python numerical and libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciPy).
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based OS (Red Hat or Suse).
  • Proficiency in Python 2.

Job Details

Omitron is looking for an Orbital Analyst to join our team in Alexandria, VA. We are a company rooted in ensuring mission success across flight operations, trajectory design and analysis, software tools for Space Domain Awareness (SDA), and On-Orbit Spaceflight Safety. You will work closely with OAs and Engineers to ensure successful mission operations, along with developing and delivering products that enable government customer situational awareness and decision making.

As an Orbital Analyst (OA), you will play a critical role in monitoring, analyzing, and predicting the behavior of space objects. OAs ensure the space flight safety of our customers’ satellite assets in a congested space domain. Your expertise in orbital mechanics and data evaluation will be pivotal to overall mission success. A successful mid-level OA will execute processes to coordinate and integrate relevant information and findings across multiple areas to deliver space analysis products and analytics. Candidate will collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team of engineers, analysts, and Team Leads to support space operations and advance Omitron’s position as a leader in the space industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive analysis of space objects’ orbital parameters, including the tracking, identification, and characterization of the Space Catalog
  • Complex understanding of orbit determination to include tracking and predicting the orbits using mathematical models and algorithms
  • Understanding of current practices and guidelines for orbital degree mitigation, including satellite end-of-life disposal and collision risk assessment
  • Comprehensive understanding of Space Surveillance Network sensors, networks, and data, including capabilities and limitations
  • Strong proficiency in applying advanced orbital mechanics to real-world problems
  • Compiling statistics based on current space object population
  • Ability to multi-task and be capable of applying innovative analysis in a dynamic work environment to solve customer problems
  • Collaborate with senior orbital analysts to track potential collision risks and other threats

Minimum Requirements:

  • US Citizenship required
  • Security Clearance: Requires an active TS/SCI with CI Poly
  • Education and experience: Master’s degree in Astrodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field and 2 years of relevant work experience. Or, have one of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree with 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Associate's Degree with 6 years of relevant work experience
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Strong proficiency in a scripting language such as shell, Perl, or Python
  • Robust understanding of space surveillance and tracking systems, such as radar and optical sensors
  • Keen ability to compile and analyze statistics based on current space object population
  • Strong understanding of non-regular data message management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience involving space domain data
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA-Security)
  • Robust knowledge of orbital mechanics
  • Experience with applying Python numerical and libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciPy, etc.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with a track record of resolving complex orbital anomalies
  • Familiarity with Linux-based OS, particularly Red Hat or Suse.
  • Proficiency in Python 2
