The Planner, Sales Planning is a crucial role within the Sales Operations team, responsible for developing digital campaign media plans for pharmaceutical clients. This position involves understanding client marketing goals, creating strategic plans, and managing communications with internal and external stakeholders. The planner oversees multiple business accounts simultaneously, generating innovative ideas for future digital strategies. They manage the core strategy and sales relationship for their assigned business, including the technical management of media plans and contract terms. The role requires proactive oversight of accounts and a deep understanding of tactical implementation, serving as the primary contact during the pre-contract sales phase. Key responsibilities include managing daily activities in deal development, leading discussions with sales teams, developing media plans, resolving issues, maintaining knowledge of inventory and products, collaborating with internal departments, handling ad hoc requests, managing the insertion order and contracting process, ensuring accurate Salesforce entries, and supporting the sales team as needed.
Must have:

The Opportunity

The Planner, Sales Planning is a key member of the Sales Operations team, partnering with our Sales organization to manage the development of detailed digital campaign media plans.  In this position, you are responsible for understanding our pharmaceutical clients’ marketing goals, creating plans to accomplish these objectives, and managing internal & external stakeholder communications/expectations.  Planners are measured on their ability to oversee the planning process for multiple pieces of business simultaneously and generate strategic ideas to help shape future digital strategies for our clients.

The Planner owns the core strategy and sales relationship for their assigned book of business, as well as the technical management of EDH Pro & external partner media plan & contract verbiage.  The Planner is proactive with the oversight of their accounts and deeply understands all aspects of tactical implementation.   Through managing communications with a dynamic cross-functional team of the company’s Sales, Market Impact, Account Services, Creative Services, Marketing Delivery, Editorial and Product/Development staff – the Planner will serve as the key point of contact in the pre-contract phase of the sales cycle.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Central point of contact in managing the day-to-day work in pre-contract deal development phase for their assigned book of business
  • Oversee and lead discussions with members of the Professional sales team & VPs to understand client goals and objectives and brainstorm solutions
  • Develop media plans that exceed client expectations and maximize revenue
  • Manage and drive the communication/reconciliation for any issues connected to the media plan/configuration development with relevant cross-functional teams
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of advertising inventory, pricing and products
  • Develop relationships and collaborate closely with key internal departments
  • Handle all ad hoc requests in a timely, efficient manner
  • Manage the Insertion Order (IO) / contracting process for their assigned book of business – closely collaborating with the Specialist, Sales Operations for relevant legal language  
  • Ensure detailed oversight, memorialization, and communication (and appropriate escalation) of process/legal/product caveats for the extended Sales Operations team members
  • Own the accurate entry, management, and deal communications of all Sales Force details related to their specific book of business
  • Provide oversight of entry and ongoing updates of all tactics/deals connected to SF trackers (includes proactive communication to cross functional teams as needed)
  • Supports the sales team in the field as needed

Job Qualifications

  • 4 Year College Degree or other advanced degree in business and/or marketing communications
  • Experience with digital media and advertising planning:  1-3 years minimum
  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry a plus
  • Intermediate Excel skills a must.  Salesforce and DSM experience a plus.
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast paced and evolving environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with and manage cross-functional teams
  • Ability to understand pharmaceutical brand marketing plans & RFPs, objectives, and success metrics and applications to HCP mindsets and needs by specialty and care setting
  • Understanding of digital content, marketing platforms/delivery systems and their business models
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, parallel projects
  • Strong ability to identify technical solutions to business problems/needs
  • Ability to solve problems and bring timely resolution to issues.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Superior listening and communication skills, both oral and written.

Note: The salary compensation for this role is $65,000 to $85,000. Individual pay within the compensation range for this business unit specific role is determined based on a variety of factors including experience, scope of the role, capabilities to perform the role, education and training, as well as business and company performance.
