This role focuses on a PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain PostgreSQL databases within our infrastructure. The DBA will be responsible for installation, configuration, performance optimization, backup, recovery, security, and collaboration with development teams to ensure efficient database operations.

Must Have

  • Install and configure PostgreSQL database servers.
  • Optimize database configuration settings for performance and reliability.

  • Identify bottlenecks and implement performance tuning.

  • Develop scripts for routine DBA task automation.
  • Collaborate with IT teams on database systems.
  • Communicate database status and plans to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR and HIPAA regulations.

Our challenge

A PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) plays a critical role in managing and maintaining PostgreSQL databases within an organization's infrastructure.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within O'Fallon, MO is $100k - $125k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Install and configure PostgreSQL database servers on-premises.
  • Optimize database configuration settings for performance and reliability.
  • Monitor database performance and resource usage.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement performance tuning measures.
  • Use tools and scripts to analyze query performance and recommend optimizations.
  • Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Regularly review and update security policies and protocols.
  • Plan and execute database migrations and upgrades with minimal downtime.
  • Collaborate with developers and application teams to design efficient database schemas.
  • Ensure normalization and indexing strategies are applied for optimal data retrieval.
  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues and errors.
  • Provide support to application developers in optimizing database interactions.

Requirements:

  • Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Document changes made to the database environment and maintain an inventory of databases.
  • Develop scripts for automation of routine DBA tasks (e.g., backups, monitoring).
  • Recommending hardware upgrades or changes as necessary.
  • Work closely with development, network, and security teams to ensure database systems align with overall IT strategy.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding database status, issues, and plans.
  • Ensure databases comply with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
