Job Description

The Principal Cinematic Artist will be responsible for the creative direction of the game's story, producing animated storyboards, managing camera work, actor performances, and editing. This role involves enriching the game experience by contributing to character backstories and relationships. The artist will oversee the entire production process, providing guidance to actors, the production team, and supervising motion capture, performance, editing, acting, and post-production sound. The goal is to ensure a high-quality narrative experience within an Unreal Engine 5 AAA game. The candidate will work with the scriptwriter, guide motion capture, art concept design, and 2D/3D art teams while collaborating with outsourced teams, ensuring the narrative aligns with the overall game experience.
Must have:
  • 7+ years of experience in film, animation, or gaming as a director.
  • Understanding of Western culture and storytelling.
  • Excellent cinematography and storytelling skills.
  • Experience with UE5 engine IGC production process.
  • Professional bilingual communication skills (Chinese and English).

Interactive Entertainment Group (IEG) is responsible for the R&D, operation, and development of the company's interactive entertainment business including games and eSports. Through online gaming, live broadcasts, and offline eSports, IEG assists the company in leading the global interactive entertainment market to create better interactive entertainment content experiences for users.
1. Work closely with the scriptwriter, responsible for the creative direction of the game story, producing an animated storyboard, taking care of the camera work of the pieces, as well as the actor's performance and editing.

2. Responsible for the game character background story, and character relationships, enriching our game experience.

3. Participate in the full production process, provide performance explanations to the actors/actresses and the production team, supervise motion capture, and work with the team to maintain high standards for performance, editing, acting, and post-production sound, providing feedback and adjustments.

4. Be responsible for the overall game experience in an unreal 5 AAA game real-time running

Requirements:

1. Passionate about games, with a strong creative enthusiasm for narrative-driven performances. Possess over 7 years of experience in the film, animation, or gaming industry as a director.

2. Understand modern Western culture and characters, and way of telling a story. Approach the best game experiences creatively and independently, producing animated storyboards, and supervising their implementation within the game engine.

3. Excellent cinematography work, storytelling techniques, and understanding of the concept of the visual hierarchy and how to lead the player's attention to the story. Excellent sense of aesthetics, be able to create outstanding works in all ways.

4. Participate in and guide motion capture, actor performances, art concept design, 2D and 3D art production teams, music and sound effects, and collaborate with multiple outsourced teams to direct and complete the full production. Make sure the narrative experience performs in conjunction with the game experience.

5. Familiar with the UE5 engine IGC production process, understand the strengths and weaknesses of the engine, and know the full pipeline for cinematic production.

6. Communication Skills, able to accurately express opinions and provide suggestions, possess professional bilingual communication skills in both Chinese and English, and can effectively express and communicate in an English-speaking environment.

The base pay range for this position in the state(s) above is $141,600 to $238,800 per year. Actual pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign on payment, relocation package, and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, as well as other medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the specific position offered.

Employees (and their families) are covered by medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are also able eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) plan, accrue from 15 up to 25 days of vacation leave per year, up to 10 paid holidays per year, 2 floating holidays and accrue up to 10 days of paid sick leave per year. Your benefits eligibility requirement will be adjusted to reflect your location, employment status, duration of employment with the company, and position level. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
