Job Description

As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of new or existing power generation system parts, including diesel generator sets, alternate fuels, and BESS. This role involves defining system requirements with customers, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and managing design scope. You will verify manufacturing drawings, research engineering standards, and prepare calculations. The position requires selecting effective design concepts, reviewing customer specifications, and ensuring assignments meet RRPS quality standards. You will also mentor associate engineers and contribute to special projects.
Must have:
  • Works on project design and development for new or existing products.
  • Designs and develops power gen system parts for diesel generator sets, alternate fuels, BESS or other systems.
  • Defines System requirements with customer and coordinates with cross functional teams.
  • Manages customer requirements, design scope, and changes.
  • Verifies manufacturing drawings, P&I diagrams, schematics, and data sheets for compliance.
  • Researches and analyzes requirements from engineering standards, contracts, and proposals.
  • Prepares engineering calculations and drawings per local and global industry standards.
  • Selects effective design concepts and fundamental technology for new or improved products.
  • Reviews and compares customer specifications against MTU designs and vendor proposals.
  • Completes assignments as per RRPS quality standards, engineering principles, and practices.
  • Promotes a compliance culture and adheres to the Rolls-Royce Code of Conduct.
Good to have:
  • Commissioning, testing or site inspection experience

Key Accountabilities:

  • Works on project design and development for new or existing products.
  • Design and development of power gen system parts for diesel generator sets, alternate fuels, BESS or other systems as needed.
  • Define System requirements with customer, coordination with cross functional teams for engineering tasks related to system solutions around power gen application.
  • Manage customer requirements and manage design scope and changes.
  • Verifies and confirms manufacturing drawings, P&I diagrams, schematics, data sheets and similar drawings for compliance with design specifications.
  • Research and analyze requirements from various engineering standards, contracts and proposal documents.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and drawings in accordance with requirements, of local and global industry standards.
  • Select effective design concepts and fundamental technology for new products or improvement of existing products
  • Review and compare customer specifications against MTU designs and equipment vendor proposals.
  • Completion of assignments as per RRPS quality standards, engineering principles and practices.

General :

  • Promotes a compliance culture in area of responsibility and live the letter and the spirit of the Rolls-Royce Code of Conduct.
  • Advise and mentor associate engineers as per need.
  • Contributes in special projects as required.
  • Create and deliver effective presentations to executive management as well as site teams

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Application Engineering, Combustion Engineering or Automotive Engineering and minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering experience in design and development of power gen system.
  • Understanding of design and system capabilities
  • Excellent applied knowledge about reciprocating internal combustion engines used in genset applications including exhaust treatment technologies
  • Excellent ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong ability to read and interpret P&I diagrams and manufacturing drawings.
  • Fundamental knowledge of AC and DC electricity.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings such as single line diagrams and point to point drawings
  • Experience in mechanical systems control systems
  • Strong ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Strong problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
  • Strong ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and explain those conclusions to management in form of presentations
  • Strong CAD and PLM, ERP tools: Creo, windchill, drafting tools, SAP.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Commissioning, testing or site inspection experience is an added advantage.
  • System Project experience.
  • Experienced to interpret/validating the test specifications/ Results for different diesel systems.
  • Experienced in closely working with suppliers
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Solution oriented.
  • Ability to professionally interact, work and coordinate with cross functional local and global teams, local and global manufacturers
  • Flexible to travel for work occasionally to different sites of supplier, manufacturing facility.
