Job Summary
The Research Integrity Associate plays a key role in triaging and resolving ethics and integrity queries for Taylor & Francis Group journals and books. This involves working across departments to ensure investigations are handled professionally and efficiently, participating in tool testing, tracking cases, and contributing to policy discussions. The role requires strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills to manage high workloads and prioritize tasks effectively.
Must Have
- Triage, assess and classify queries in the Ethics team inbox, escalating as appropriate
- Respond to publication ethics queries as required (internal & external)
- Assess special issue proposals according to established due diligence protocols
- Handle author name change queries and authorship change requests in accordance with T&F policies and SOPs
- Participate in research integrity tool testing and provide detailed feedback and recommendations
- Ensure all investigations are tracked centrally with a clear audit trail
- Handle cases professionally, accurately and punctually in accordance with T&F policies and SOPs
- Participate in largescale and complex investigations ensuring consistency and auditable manner
- Identify complex cases for escalation and prepare case summaries and supporting documentation
- Interpret results from tools like iThenticate or Proofig and prepare reports to verify concerns
- Draft author correspondence and post-publication notices where appropriate
- Use knowledge gained from cases to input into discussions around ethics and integrity policies and workflows

- Experience in research integrity issues or submission systems (e.g. ScholarOne, Editorial Manager)

Job Description
Reporting into the Head of Research Integrity and Ethics, Research Integrity Associates (RIAs) play a key role in triaging and help drive resolutions on ethics and integrity queries and cases across Taylor & Francis Group journals and books. Working across departments and stakeholders, the RIAs play an important role within the Publishing Ethics and Integrity team in ensuring that tasks and systems related to ethics and integrity investigations are handled professionally and efficiently.
Due to business growth we are now recruiting for 4 new Research Integrity Associates to work in this vital team!
Key accountabilities
- Triage, assess and classify queries in the Ethics team inbox, escalating as appropriate;
- Respond to publication ethics queries as required (internal & external);
- Working with the Team Lead, Ethics and Integrity Analyst, assess special issue proposals (and other similar proposals) according to established due diligence protocols and using bespoke tools, ensuring required sensitivity and data protection protocols are maintained;
- Handle author name change queries and authorship change requests in accordance with T&F policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), escalating where appropriate;
- Working with the Ethics and Integrity Senior Operations Manager, participate in research integrity tool testing and provide detailed feedback and recommendations;
- Working closely with the Research Integrity Managers, ensure that all investigations are tracked centrally with a clear audit trail, to input into case reporting;
- Working in accordance with the T&F policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensure that cases are handled professionally, accurately and punctually;
- Participate in largescale and complex investigations ensuring these are handled in a consistent and auditable manner;
- Working closely with the Research Integrity Managers (RIMs), identify complex cases for escalation and prepare case summaries and supporting documentation as appropriate;
- Using tools to detect research integrity and ethics issues (such as iThenticate or Proofig) interpret the results and prepare reports to verify concerns raised;
- Where appropriate, draft author correspondence and post-publication notices;
- Use knowledge gained from cases to input into discussions around ethics and integrity policies and workflows.
Qualifications
- A degree in STM or HSS, or demonstrated academic background;
- Familiarity with publication ethics and research integrity issues
- Experience in working with scholarly journals and submission systems
- Highly proficient in working with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and shared folders
Skills & behaviours required
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to take an agile approach when needed;
- High level of professional communication (written and oral) skills;
- Curiosity and good problem-solving skills;
- Advanced organisational skills;
- Team player and a self-starter;
- Ability to quickly build a rapport with internal and external stakeholders of all levels;
- Ability to manage high workloads and prioritize as needed
Experience in research integrity issues or submission systems (e.g. ScholarOne, Editorial Manager) would be advantageous.
Additional Information
Please note you must have the right to live and work in the UK to be considered for this role.
Location: The successful candidates will be able to utilise our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance of our Milton Park office in Oxfordshire to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office location to collaborate as required. There is an expectation for a minimum of 3 days per week in-person time.
