Job Description

dbt Labs is seeking an experienced Resident Architect (RA) to join their Professional Services team. RAs are billable to dbt Cloud Enterprise customers and play a crucial role in empowering data developers. The role involves driving customer outcomes through technical projects, including implementation, troubleshooting, embedding best practices, and designing scalable solutions. Responsibilities include providing architectural consulting, championing product adoption, collaborating with internal teams, and delivering feedback to product and engineering. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience in customer-facing technical roles, deep expertise in at least one data platform (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift), and proficiency in SQL and Python. The company emphasizes transparency, cross-collaboration, and a customer-focused approach. Travel is expected 2-4 times per year for company-wide events.
Must have:
  • 4+ years of experience in customer-facing technical roles.
  • Deep expertise in at least one data platform (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift).
  • Experience using, deploying, or configuring dbt Cloud for minimum 1 year.
  • Proficient in writing SQL and Python in analytics contexts.
  • Customer-focused with strong organizational skills and technical project delivery experience.
  • Clear and concise communication with stakeholders.
  • Thrives in a remote, transparent, and collaborative organization.
Good to have:
  • dbt Analytics Engineering Certification.
  • Ability to advise on dbt Cloud recommendations and build consensus.
  • Experience with traditional Enterprise ETL tooling (Informatica, Datastage, Talend).

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Resident Architect (RA) with a passion for solving complex problems using dbt to join our Professional Services team. RAs are billable to dbt Cloud Enterprise customers and play a critical role in advancing our mission to empower data developers to create and share organizational knowledge.

What You'll Do

  • Drive customer outcomes
  • Lead a variety of impactful technical projects for customers—including implementation, configuration troubleshooting, embedding best practices, and designing both MVPs and long-term solutions tailored to customer needs
  • Provide architectural and design consulting to ensure scalable and maintainable implementations
  • Champion product adoption for our most strategic dbt Cloud customers by aligning solutions to their goals
  • Collaborate closely with internal customer-facing teams—Sales, Solutions Architects, Training, and Support—to ensure seamless customer experiences
  • Deliver actionable feedback to dbt Labs' Product and Engineering teams to help prioritize customer needs and ensure quick resolution of engagement-specific issues
  • Develop deep expertise in dbt and its role within the modern data stack (if not already an expert)

What You'll Need

  • You have 4+ years experience working with technical data tooling in a customer-facing post-sales, technical architect or consulting role
  • You have deep expertise in at least one data platform (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift)
  • You have experience using, deploying, or configuring dbt Cloud - working with dbt for minimum 1 year
  • You are proficient in writing SQL and python in analytics contexts
  • You look forward to building skills in technical areas that support deployment and integration of dbt Cloud solutions to complete customer projects
  • You are customer focused - embracing one of core values that users are our best advocates
  • You are highly organized. Comfort with technical project delivery - managing scope, timelines, and deliverables - this role will be staffed on multiple engagements at once
  • You communicate clearly and concisely with internal and external stakeholders - demonstrating a capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions
  • You thrive in a remote organization that highly values transparency and cross-collaboration
  • You will travel 2-4x/year to company wide events

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • You have obtained the dbt Analytics Engineering Certification
  • You have the ability to advise on dbt Cloud recommendations, and build direction/consensus with the customer to move forward
  • Experience with traditional Enterprise ETL tooling (Informatica, Datastage, Talend)

Remote Hiring Process 

  • Interview with a Talent Acquisition Partner
  • An introductory interview with our Professional Services Regional Manager
  • After that we’ll ask you to complete a take home task
  • Team Interviews with a current Resident Architect and our VP, Customer Services

Compensation

We offer competitive compensation packages commensurate with experience, including salary, equity, and where applicable, performance-based pay. Our Talent Acquisition Team can answer questions around dbt Lab’s total rewards during your interview process.

In Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York Metro, San Francisco, DC Metro, Seattle, and Austin, an alternate range may apply, as specified below.
