Job Description

The Apple Retail Business Planning team supports the Retail Leadership Team by connecting strategies, driving initiatives, and aiding decision-making. This role involves managing a team of individual contributors, overseeing priorities, ensuring alignment, and supporting the Director. The manager will work with senior leadership, providing operational and project management oversight, and is expected to be a 'stitcher' with strong business and financial acumen, organizational skills, and excellent leadership and communication abilities.
Must have:
  • Manage team and workload, setting expectations and deadlines, reviewing work, and providing feedback.
  • Build capabilities of individuals and teams through employee development, involvement, communication, and coaching.
  • Lead the team to prepare presentations, reports, and strategic documents.
  • Support development of key internal communications and presentations including Retail Quarterly Business Reviews, Executive Meetings, Board of Directors, Fiscal Year Plan, and All Team Meetings.
  • Storytelling across both business and financial plans and initiatives.
  • Support recurring strategic and operational meetings such as Retail Leadership Staff(s), Executive Assistant meetings, etc. to ensure shared context, awareness, and alignment.
  • Work with team to assemble and make the agenda available before meetings begins.
  • Collect and prepare content, ensure actions are tracked and completed.
  • Source and curate content for regular activity reports.
  • Elevate and improve on the Retail Management System, including cadence of Leadership meetings and updates aligned with Retail Strategic Focus Areas.
  • Ensure measurement against timelines and KPI’s.
  • Connect the dots across teams and workstreams that should intersect and collaborate.
  • Elevate risks, identify areas of improvement across the Retail organization and make actionable recommendations.
  • Present the Retail Leadership Team with detailed operations analyses.
  • Project manage special strategic initiatives for the Retail Leadership team from inception to completion and develop business insights and recommendations.
  • Develop and lead key ongoing Retail-wide analyses, including researching and analyzing retail industries, technology segments, and business models, and evaluating the merits and risks of complex alternatives.
  • Work cross-functionally to incubate ideas and develop strategies that influence the future direction of Apple’s Retail investments.
  • Craft compelling stories, supported by data, that bring strategies to life.
  • Help transform the Retail Leadership Team’s ideas into reality and monitor their progress.

The Retail Business Planning team sits at the center of Retail, supporting the Retail Leadership Team. This team is responsible for connecting the strategies and plans across the teams, and for driving key initiatives forward.

This role requires managing a team of individual contributors to manage the organization’s priorities, ensuring alignment across teams, driving critical initiatives, and supporting the Retail Business Planning Director in decision-making processes. The Retail Business Planning Team Manager will work closely with senior leadership, providing operational, project management, and organizational oversight. We are looking for a “stitcher”, who has extensive experience with storytelling across both business and financial plans. The ideal candidate has strong business and financial acumen, is organized, strategic, and possesses excellent management, leadership, and communication skills.

1) Team Management

Responsible for managing team and workload. Guide the work of the Retail Business Planning team, setting expectations and deadlines, reviewing work, and providing feedback. Build capabilities of individuals and teams through employee development, involvement, communication, and coaching

2) Organization-Wide Communication

Lead the team to prepare presentations, reports, and strategic documents

3) Presentation Development

Support development of key internal communications and presentations including Retail Quarterly Business Reviews, Executive Meetings, Board of Directors, Fiscal Year Plan, and All Team Meetings. This work includes storytelling across both business and financial plans and initiatives

Work cross-functionally to incubate ideas and develop strategies that influence the future direction of Apple’s Retail investments.   • This role typically requires 10+ years of work experience in strategy, finance, or business development role in a Retail-centric environment; 8+ years related experience with a strategy consulting firm or investment bank, and/or experience as a Chief of Staff at a large organization
  • Demonstrated people-leadership experience
  • Experience managing relationships and working cross-functionally within global organizations
  • Ability to understand and articulate the big picture to executive teams, while maintaining exceptional attention to execution details
  • Excellent problem-solving and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively facilitate complex meetings with executives and partners across multiple functions in an organization
  • Excellent program management skills, with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Excellent Keynote / Powerpoint and Excel skills
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years people management experience
  • Outstanding analytical skills and experience in collecting, analyzing, and tracking key business data
  • Relentless focus on details, accuracy, and quality
  • Exceptional influencer that knows how to connect the dots at the project, team, and organizational levels

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $182,500 and $274,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
