Location: Liverpool Hybrid (Monday and Tuesday in studio)

We are excited to be looking for a Senior Animator to join our growing team as we continue to build and raise the bar in interactive animation on our current and future projects.


As a key member of the animation team, you will bring characters to life using keyframe and motion capture to create high quality animation, using a strong foundation in the principles of animation. You will collaborate with artists, designers and other animators to develop new features and craft exciting gameplay mechanics from the ground up. This role is focused on game development and your expertise will breathe life into our characters and systems that will excite players all around the world. This role reports to the Animation Director.


Responsibilities

  • Expertly understands and delivers content that is used as a quality benchmark for various features and scenes
  • Provides feedback to junior team members and actively reinforces the animation direction and philosophy across the team.
  • Work with the Animation Director, leads & team to establish the animation style and requirement for the project.
  • Setting a standard of quality for animators and actively participate in game development, showing abilities to influence, innovate and communicate
  • Meet project deadlines in a timely manner whilst maintaining artistic integrity.
  • Actively participate in animation system design and problem resolution taking part ownership of the systems assigned.
  • Working closely with design and programming teams to create an efficient development pipeline and ensure the quality of animation upon integration
  • Play the game to validate movement control and identify improvements.
  • Collaborate across the animation, art, design, and programming teams to find solutions to animation related issues
  • Implement assets in the game engine.
  • Be involved in preparing and co-directing motion capture shoots.
  • Assisting in the development of tools and working with the programming team to ensure continuous improvement


Job requirements

  • Highly skilled in (one or more of) Maya, 3DS Max or Motionbuilder
  • Game Development experience 
  • Experience with one or multiple character systems: Locomotion, Weapon Systems, Melee, Non Player Characters
  • Experience with Unreal Engine
  • Passion for pushing animation quality of interactive systems with an open mind.
  • Good eye and understanding of animation attention to detail.
  • Good general technical knowledge of game play systems
  • Be comfortable filming references for you and when needed the animation team.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, being able to support and share knowledge effectively
  • Ability to accept feedback, interpret direction and constructive criticism.
  • Deliver content on schedule and within technical limitations
  • Self motivation and attitude.

Desired Experience

  • Experience in developing character systems with multiple teams, i.e. programming, design, art.
  • Strong sense of how gameplay and animation relate to one another
  • Experience with motion capture
  • Excellent Problem solver

Important:

The interview process for the Associate Animation Director role is made up of 2 stages:

  • First interview (45 – 60 minutes) – An interview to discuss your experience and working history relating to the position with members of our Animation team. In return, we will provide a full overview of the role, life at the studio as well as answer any questions you may have.
  • Second Interview - (45-60 minutes) - An interview with some of the members of design and engineering to discuss the project in more detail.
  • Final interview (30 minutes) – A final Interview with our Studio Head and Studio Production Director. This will be a chance for you to get to know the Senior Management team and all the things that make Lucid, Lucid! You will have a lot of opportunities to ask any questions about the studio and Culture.
