The Role: Technical Artist (Unreal Engine & Metahumans Expertise)

Lumeto is seeking an experienced Technical Artist with a deep understanding of Unreal Engine, character modeling, rigging, and technical animation, particularly with Metahuman workflows. As we transition our production pipeline to leverage Metahumans, are looking for an individual who can support the integration of this cutting-edge technology into our healthcare simulation platform. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers and software developers, and play a critical role in ensuring the quality and performance of our simulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and integration of Metahuman characters into our Unreal Engine-based pipeline.
  • Develop and optimize tools, assets, and workflows for character modeling, rigging, and animation, with a focus on Metahumans.
  • Ensure high-quality, photorealistic character animations that align with the unique needs of medical simulation.
  • Collaborate with the art and dev teams to optimize assets and ensure top visual quality and performance.
  • Debug and troubleshoot technical issues related to characters, rigging, and animation pipelines.
  • Document and share best practices for character creation, rigging, and animation within the Unreal Engine environment.
  • Assist in scoping character-related work to ensure timely milestone deliveries.


Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • 3+ years professional experience in character modeling, rigging, and technical animation, ideally with Unreal Engine.
  • Extensive knowledge of Metahuman workflows and character pipeline in Unreal Engine.
  • Proficiency in tools like Maya for rigging and animation.
  • Strong technical understanding of Unreal Engine's animation blueprints, construction scripts, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with shader creation and level performance optimization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to develop solutions for new challenges related to character animation and integration.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a collaborative mindset.

  • Unreal Engine (4 or 5)


Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Rigging and animation for Metahumans.
  • Scripting/programming in Python or C++.
  • Experience with motion capture data cleanup and integration.
  • Experience in character physics, facial animation, and blend shapes.
  • Proficiency in creating high-quality textures and materials.
