Job Description

The Senior Application Engineer at Ansys will partner with customers to solve real-world engineering problems using Ansys software. This role involves providing technical pre-sales support, performing professional services, and translating customer requirements into new product features. The engineer will work in multi-disciplinary teams to create simulation solutions, expand industry knowledge, and grow business impact. Key responsibilities include providing technical support to LS-DYNA users, promoting new technologies, leading technical activities, understanding customer design needs, creating simulation solutions, and collaborating with product development teams to translate customer requirements.
Must have:
  • BS or MS or PhD in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering.
  • Solid foundation in structural mechanics and finite element method.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Good to have:
  • Proficient in LS-DYNA or similar tools.
  • Experience in occupant safety for automotive industry.
  • Experience with pre-processing tools.
  • Knowledge of Ansys Workbench, LS-PrePost, and LS-RUN.
  • Experience with nonlinear and rate-sensitive materials.
  • Basic programming and scripting skills.

Summary / Role Purpose

Join the Ansys Customer Excellence team to partner with our customers to engineer what's ahead, solve their real-world engineering problems, deploy Ansys software in their design workflows, and grow Ansys’ business. As a hands-on subject matter expert, you will use expert-level engineering knowledge to provide technical pre-sales support, perform professional services, and help translate customer requirements into exciting new product features. You will be working within multi-disciplinary teams to create pervasive simulation solutions, advance your industry knowledge, and grow the business impact.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering expertise and knowledge of simulation technology to provide the highest level of technical support to LS-DYNA users.
  • Exploring and promoting products and new technologies in the simulation field of occupant safety including airbag, seatbelt, seat ,dummy and human body.
  • Lead in coordinating and executing all technical activities throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle such as technical discovery, negotiate technical success criteria, product presentations, demonstrations, and evaluations. Work independently within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Interact with customers to understand their product design needs and engineering design workflows; analyze how to address customers’ requirements using Ansys products and platform, articulate Ansys’ value proposition
  • Assist in creating differentiating simulation solutions using the Ansys platform and products; deploy the solutions within customers’ design workflows
  • Develop competence as a subject matter expert and industry expert
  • Collaborate with the Ansys product development teams to translate customer requirements into exciting new product features; test new releases of Ansys products on industrial problems, develop application best practices
  • Support Ansys field and digital marketing, author conference presentations
  • Contribute to consulting services, conduct introductory and/or intermediate training classes

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Required education and degree type: BS or MS or PhD in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering/Aerospace/ Mechanics or related field
  • Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+5, MS+3, or PhD+0
  • Solid foundation in structural mechanics and finite element method
  • Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills, fluent in writing and speaking English
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, possesses a sense of urgency
  • Projects a professional image and demonstrates business acumen, driven to succeed
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 50% of time
  • Experience in modeling and analysis of automotive restraint systems
  • Hands on experience of LS-DYNA or other similar tools

 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Preferred education and years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+8, MS+6, or PhD+3
  • Proficient in LS-DYNA or other similar tools
  • 3 years of experience in occupant safety for OEM or Tier1 supplier in the automotive industry, and completed occupant protection simulation analysis and optimization for at least two vehicle model projects
  • Understand the regulatory requirements for virtual testing and the corresponding requirements for simulation
  • Experience with pre-processing tools such as ANSA, Primer or Hypermesh.
  • Knowledge of Ansys Workbench, LS-PrePost, and LS-RUN.
  • Experience with nonlinear and rate-sensitive materials (foam, fabric, plastics, rubber, etc.)
  • Basic programming and scripting skills, e.g. python, bash
