Job Description

As a Senior Component Design Engineer at Rolls-Royce, you will join the Global Mechanical Systems Capability function to create robust engineering solutions for product system and sub-system level environments, ensuring manufacturability. You will be responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of design definition artifacts, operating within the Product Lifecycle System and Rolls-Royce Management System policies. This role involves sub-system integration of technical activities for design solutions and enabling lifecycle profitability through the Supply Chain Design. You will contribute to a team that sets industry standards and drives groundbreaking solutions.
Must have:
  • Deliver new component designs and design changes within the Design Technical Approval (DTA) Process.
  • Support the supply chain in procuring hardware from multiple suppliers.
  • Provide engineering support for service and/or development related hardware issues.
  • Develop and specify component design requirements.
  • Address manufacturing, assembly, in-field, and aftermarket issues.
  • Participate in or lead Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) teams.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years experience, OR Master's/JD/PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
Good to have:
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, analysis, and verification of complex aerospace mechanical components and/or systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in progressing designs/changes through a gated review process.
  • Experience with aerospace structures and casings components.
  • Expertise in Siemens NX, Siemens Teamcenter, Microsoft Excel.
  • Expertise in dimensional tolerance stack-ups and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of gas turbine subsystems and components and their function and operation.

Job Description

As a Senior Component Design Engineer, you will be part of the Global Mechanical Systems Capability function. You will create engineering solutions that satisfy functional and physical requirements symptomatic of Product System and Sub-System level environments. Crucially, the engineered solutions must exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability. You’ll be responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of component design definition artifacts i.e., documents, models, definitions that meet system level and sub-system requirements. You will participate within an IPT described by Product Lifecycle System (PLS) and operate in accordance with applicable Rolls-Royce Management System (RRMS) policies and processes. As the Component Design Engineer, you will also be responsible for sub-system integration of the technical activities for their design solutions and enabling lifecycle profitability through the Supply Chain Design.

What you will be doing

With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:

  • Deliver new component designs and design changes within the Design Technical Approval (DTA) Process, which includes (but is not limited to) creating design concepts, optimizing concepts to a final definition, preparing technical presentations and documents, supporting creation of drawings, delivering hardware for validation, and release of hardware to the field
  • Support the supply chain in procuring hardware from multiple suppliers including concession consultation and execution of Drawing Alteration Requests (DARs)
  • Provide engineering support of service and/or development related hardware issues including Engine Investigations (EI) and Technical Variance (TV) consultation
  • Develop and specify component design requirements in accordance with module, system, and customer interface requirements
  • Address manufacturing, assembly, in-field, and aftermarket issues as they arise
  • Participate in or lead Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) teams

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, OR
  • JD/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • To be considered for this role, you must be a US Citizen

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, analysis, and verification of complex aerospace mechanical components and/or systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in progressing designs/changes through a gated review process.
  • Experience with aerospace structures and casings components
  • Expertise in the following software applications: Siemens NX, Siemens Teamcenter, Microsoft Excel
  • Expertise in dimensional tolerance stack-ups and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of gas turbine subsystems and components and their function and operation
