Job Description
Rackspace Technology is seeking a Senior Data Services Platform Engineer to join their Professional Services Team. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and managing cloud data services platforms, ensuring reliable, scalable, and high-performance data services across private cloud environments. Responsibilities include designing, building, and managing enterprise data services platforms, monitoring performance, implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring high uptime. The engineer will provision and manage various data services, implement security best practices, optimize performance, manage the data service lifecycle, and support multiple data technologies. They will also design and implement Infrastructure as Code, develop automation scripts, integrate data services with CI/CD pipelines, and implement monitoring solutions. Experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and supporting data workloads is crucial. The role involves providing technical guidance, participating in on-call rotation, documenting processes, and collaborating with security teams.
Good To Have:
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or similar certifications
- Experience with Portworx or other container-native storage platforms
- Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd)
- Knowledge of data service performance tuning and optimization
- Experience with data pipeline tools and ETL processes
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC2, GDPR, HIPAA)
- Experience with GitOps workflows and tools like ArgoCD or Flux
Must Have:
- 5+ years of platform engineering, DevOps, or data infrastructure administration
- 3+ years of experience with container-native storage solutions
- Experience managing production data services environments at scale
- Strong expertise in Kubernetes administration and container orchestration
- Proficiency with data service administration (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka)
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.) for automation
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Helm)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Services Platform Engineer to join our Professional Services Team, focusing on designing, implementing, and managing our cloud data services platform. This role is critical to ensuring reliable, scalable, and high-performance data services across private cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in container-native storage solutions, Kubernetes, and database management at scale, with the ability to work across multiple data technologies and platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and manage enterprise data services platforms and infrastructure, preferably Portworx Data Services (PDS)
- Monitor platform health, performance metrics, and capacity planning across multiple data technologies
- Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies
- Troubleshoot complex platform issues and coordinate resolution efforts
- Ensure high uptime and meet established SLA requirements for data services
- Provision and manage various data services including databases, caching layers, and message queues
- Implement data security best practices, access controls, and compliance requirements
- Optimize data service performance, storage utilization, and resource allocation
- Manage data service lifecycle including upgrades, patches, and migrations
- Support multiple data technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, etc.)
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Helm
- Develop automation scripts (e.g. Python, Bash/Shell, PowerShell, etc.) for routine operations, deployments, and maintenance tasks
- Integrate data services platform with CI/CD pipelines and development workflows
- Implement monitoring and alerting solutions using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or similar
- Manage Kubernetes clusters and container orchestration for data workloads
- Provide technical guidance and best practices for data service usage to cloud tenants/users
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical platform support
- Document processes, procedures, and architectural decisions
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure regulatory adherence
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or data infrastructure administration
- 3+ years of experience with container-native storage solutions (Portworx preferred)
- Experience managing production data services environments at scale
- Solid experience with Linux-based Operating Systems (e.g. Debian/Ubuntu, Redhat, etc.) and Windows Server administration
- Proven track record of implementing high-availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Experience with agile development methodologies and collaborative team environments
- Strong expertise in Kubernetes administration and container orchestration
- Proficiency with data service administration across multiple technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, etc.)
- Solid understanding of networking, storage, and security principles in containerized environments
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.) for automation
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Helm)
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools
Additional Skills (Good to have)
