Job Summary
As a Senior Director of Product Design for Core Product UX, you will lead one of Udemy’s most strategically important design domains, defining the experience for millions of users worldwide. Reporting to the VP of Design & Research, you will shape end-to-end experiences across web and mobile platforms, ensuring Udemy sets the standard for intuitive, elegant, and effective upskilling experiences. You will work cross-functionally with Product and Engineering peers to build high-performing, coherent, and beautiful product experiences, influencing C-level stakeholders and driving innovation in AI-powered UX.
Must Have

- Deep understanding, fluency and hands-on experience in emerging AI design, prototyping and frontend coding tools

**Where we Work**
Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.
**About this Role**
As a Senior Director of Product Design for for our Core Product UX, you will lead one of Udemy’s most strategically important design domains—defining the experience for millions of users worldwide. Reporting to the VP of Design & Research, you will shape the end-to-end experiences across web and mobile platforms, ensuring Udemy continues to set the standard for intuitive, elegant, and effective upskilling experiences. You will work cross functionally with your peers in Product and Engineering to build high performing, coherent and beautiful product experiences.
**What you’ll be doing**
- Set the vision for the core product UX at Udemy, ensuring our platform is not only functional but inspiring, competitive, and visually iconic.
- Elevate design across multiple global teams (US and Europe), acting as a player-coach who guides by example while mentoring senior talent.
- Influence at the highest levels, presenting confidently to C-level stakeholders and driving alignment between design, product, and business strategy.
- Lead innovation in AI-powered UX, prototyping the future of personalized learning, content creation, and global classroom experiences.
- Build culture, creating an environment where designers do the best work of their careers—grounded in collaboration, inclusion, and shared purpose.
- Scale impact, operationalizing design processes and systems that enable consistent, high-quality outcomes across products, regions, and modalities.
**What you’ll have**
- 10+ years of product design leadership and leading leaders, including 5+ years leading and mentoring multi-disciplinary design teams at scale and 3+ years in an executive function overseeing budgets, career development, organizational change management and culture building.
- A deep understanding of creator economy incentives and drivers.
- A portfolio that demonstrates not only excellent design execution but also your ability to drive vision, influence outcomes, and scale impact across complex ecosystems.
- Deep experience designing for web and mobile platforms; fluency in video-based, subscription, or creator-driven products is a strong plus.
- Comfort and confidence engaging with executive stakeholders; proven ability to align design strategy with business goals and outcomes.
- Expertise in design systems, UX strategy, and operational excellence to drive efficiency and consistency, including deep collaboration with Marketing and Product Marketing
- Deep understanding, fluency and hands-on experience in emerging AI design, prototyping and and frontend coding tools and experience shaping AI-powered product features.
- A track record of building strong, collaborative team cultures across geographies.
- Vibrant connections across the design industry, with the ability to represent Udemy externally and ensure our design org is connected, visible, and influential in the broader community.
- Exceptional communication skills that inspire trust, alignment, and clarity across disciplines.

- You have built strong and productive relationships with your partners in the Content & Creator Strategy, Enterprise and Consumer Marketplace teams.
- Udemy’s core product experiences are measurably more cohesive, intuitive, and impactful, with flagship features launched under your leadership.
- You’ve embedded AI-powered design approaches into workflows and products, driving innovation in how learners and instructors engage with the platform.
- The design org has stronger visibility and influence across Udemy and in the broader design community, with you as a visible ambassador.
- Your team describes the culture you’ve built as collaborative, inclusive, and career-defining.

Actual compensation for this role is based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, and specific work location due to differences in the cost of labor. In addition to a base salary, this role is also eligible for equity.
Hiring Compensation Range
$272,000—$340,000 USD
